Abolishing the European Commission would be seen as an attack on the individual countries' sovereignty as it would give more power to the EU.

The capitalist response to that would be that the investment in companies is better because it makes everyone richer in the long term by increasing overall wealth.

I'm not sure I buy it but it's an effect to consider.

It's a little odd to blame this on the English translation since Voltaire was, naturally, writing in French:

Utterly irrelevant since that carbon came out of the air to grow the tree in the first place.

Of course it's not! Trees are grown as a crop. These aren't ancient forests, they're fields of trees for harvesting. If it was uncertain no-one could make money from forestry.

Have you ever read Bertrand Russell's critique of the gold standard in his essay The Modern Midas? It's in the collection "In Praise of Idleness".

It's worth reading all of them, even if you disagree with most of it.

No, you're assuming that you need AGI to control a robot, when LLMs have already shown you don't need anything close to hold a conversation.

Why are you suddenly in favour of socialist projects? Shouldn't you be saying they should be privately funded and lets see if they can make a profit selling their electricity?

European car manufacturers have been given every opportunity and encouragement to build EVs and the phrase "dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century" springs to mind.

People are buying BYD because they're better cars, not because they're forced to.

I'm guessing that's because blue means left wing in the USA and red means right wing.

Why did you switch them around? Red always meant left wing. Even in the US red meant the Soviets. It's just confusing to everyone else.
