Did you even read the article? They explicitly point out that it was the learned class that was so busy with their other important things that they missed all of it. The whole thing is about how that played out.

There really is no such thing as 'gamers', any more than there are 'movie-goers' or 'streamers'. Everybody does it. Some demographics will love to tribe up just for the sake of it. Some will just shrug and move on. One of the saddest things about game marketing is how it's still hyper-focused on horny teens.
That said: As long as companies can change their TOS, content or even the availability of their game, the review system should be equally flexible.

I feel this might need some new form of 3D input to get it right. Our grasp of speech made us lazy: The core of what we want to communicate can be captured in sound and therefore words (and hence you can read and understand this). 'Communicating' with my dog is a multi-cue affair, involving pointed looks, head tilts, specific wags and a lot of emoting. I doubt you could consistently pick all that up from (2D) video alone.

It's not just about life-years. It's about the risk of making significant stretches of land uninhabitable for a serious amount of time. 26 Chernobyl-like releases would have punched some serious holes in the map of the Western world. Furthermore, the 30-year argument sounds disingenuous ("LNT-Worshipping"? Really?) and the CO2 waste issue is mentioned where the nuclear waste issue is not.
Honestly, the whole thing feels like cheap propaganda.

I'm grateful for this. It's a good incentive to finally quit Reddit completely. It's pretty much down there with Facebook these days but so far I've kept scanning it out of habit. But the new UI is so bloody toxic, I'd rather quit than undergo that.

In the last ten years there has been a significant change in mainstream content from information (what) to personalities (who). A major driver has been the adoption of social media by the mainstream: Uncle Bob pawing his cell phone while on the toilet. Both closed circle SM (checking on your friends and acquaintances) and public facing SM (checking the influencers) have created a whole new, uncontrolled feeding ground to some old vices: Jaleousy and greed. Watching other people's lives and see them spending money and enjoying fineries in an (supposedly) unedited, reality-like format makes a lot of people feel that it must all be real and they should be living that live themselves. Whether it's about wealth, ideologies or any other aspect of lifestyle: Suddenly it's right there, dangled in front of them. This, coupled with the ease of packing in actionable links and buttons, creates a whole new dynamic where people get lured in by shiny things (crypto/NFS/MLM etc) only to get duped. It's a really old phenomenon, though.
