Tuxedo is a german company relabling Clevo Laptops so far, which work out-of-the-box pretty good (I might say perfect in some cases) on Linux. They have done ZILCH, NADA, absolute nothing for Linux, besides promoting it as a brand. So now they took a snapdragon laptop, installed linux and are disappointed by the performance....Great test, tremendous work! Asahi Linux showed if you put in the work you can have awesome performance.

Yes thats right for most things, unless it's your beloved GNU C++ compiler. You might just have forgotten a const in your template method and it will give you 5 pages of hell for that.

God how I hate these arguments. You have this especially with Gimp. "But my beloved multibillion company worth product can do X sooo much better and easier. Also it has 16bit bla bla bla." You don't say?!?!?!?
Any tips how to get a thicker skin, or it grows on you over the years ?
Also, thanks for Ardour. I am a hobby cellist and record sometimes myself using Ardour and to cut down samples for an app I am working on. I tried doing that with my iPhone which worked like crap. Yup!

> Personally I'm a bit disappointed that it's based on Rockchip.
Why would you?
You mentioned Raspberry where, compared to the competition, you pay more for the name while they deliver even the same capabilities or more bang for the buck...
Don't get me wrong. Huge Raspi fan here. I have 3 models laying around here, because they are the easiest to purchase. But the competition is not to be overlooked.
Also, aren't the compute modules strandarized or compatible? So it should be interchangeable, no?

That was a pretty boring annoucement. Yeah its cool how the elements on the device appear, but it gets boring when this is shown for both sides of the attachebles controllers. They have the opportunity to show e.g. exclusive games which would now look and perform super duper on the new hardware, because of a better resolution opr maybe HDR, but nothing like that? Or a comparison of the old one with the new? I think its a bit thin...

He cannot use Emacs and then goes to ... Vim ?!?! Nothing against Vim or Emacs, I love both but they had their time which is long gone. I am using Linux ans OSS technolgies since 95 and would have never imagined to advocate a MS product, but just use VS Code. It's awesome. VS Code managed to by-pass the qualitiy and amount of extensions/plugins in a fraction of time Emacs took decades.

Intresting. I know of two projects from the past where people used Gambit and Chicken and couldn't recommend it, because of the garbage collection. So the games runs, bullets fly, monsters move, etc... and at some point gc kicks in and you would notice a minimal halt or lag which for games is a big NO NO. Now that you mentioned a shmup, where a lot I going on, I am wondering how you or Chez handled that?

I would never have imagined to read something about him here. I absolutely love his 4th symphony "Los Angeles". And recently "In cantus memoriam Benjamin Britten" was used in a movie. He wrote that piece after learning about Benjamin Britten and being absolutely delighted by his work, only to then find out he passed away shortly before. What a fruitful friendship and cooperation this could have been....

Cannot tell much about the app itself as I just learned about it and has to see how it performs. However I wanted to comment on the buying process. You can pay any amount which you think is fair and get a download link. Later on you can donate more if you like. This is, for the Apple eco-system, really refreshring, and I very much miss this for iPhone Apps. I do not know how often I have installed and directly after de-installed apps because I cannot use them until I payed x bucks, which is completely rediculous because I do not know if the app will do or work in my setup / use-case.

A few years ago Descent3 was modernized by Icculus(Ryan Gordon) to play on modern hardware running Linux and released thru Steam. The old version was unable to run on modern distros. The new released version uses SDL2 and runs nicely on modern hardware even the SteamDeck. Anyway it has some bugs which hopefully can be addressed if more people chime in. Find the bugtracker on github: https://github.com/icculus/descent3-bugs/issues
