Pulling in lots of dependencies creates this kind of risk regardless of the ecosystem. That being said in the JS/NPM world you tend to have a LOT more dependencies (especially indirect ones) than other languages. I saw someone do a cursory analysis and JS/Node projects tend to have 5x the number rust or ruby projects.

This is really a cultural problem not a technical one.

Quality vs variety trade off. Costco only has a couple options but they are well better and you don't have to do extra work to make sure you're not buying a piece of crap.

Also, you don't have to shop at Costco exclusively, you still have all the other options available. Costco is just a good default if you're not looking for something specific.

There's two kinds of route hijacks. Origin or path based.

RPKI addresses who is allowed to originate a prefix. There are other technical changes that need to be implemented to get path validation, this cloud flare blog has a good write up on the issues/solutions.

"All the large institutions are doing it" has never resulted in disaster (see the dot com bubble and the great financial crisis).

It seems preposterous that building a data center and

launching it into space would be more practical than building a data center terrestrially. Every problem gets 10 to 100 times harder (Cooling, energy, how are you going to do maintenance on the thing, it's in space?)

The only thing that's easier is you don't have to do any local community engagement.

If a grid connection is the constraint on your project, building an islanded data center with a buttload of solar and batteries seems a lot more feasible than launching it into space. Then you have the option to build a grid connection later and monitize those resourcess.
