With all of that, I suspect that the rumours of FDA's death are greatly exaggerated.

$1.00 + 30% = 1.00 + 0.30 = $1.30

then

$1.30 - 30% = 1.30 - 0.13*3 = $0.91

PROFIT!

A fair comparison with C++ would be to at least include the compilation/linking time into the time reported.

Ditto for Java or any JVM language (you'd have JVM startup cost but that doesn't count the compilation time for bytecode).

Generally, for stuff (scientific computing benchmarks) like this you want to run a lot of computation precisely to avoid stuff like this (i.e you want to fairly allow the cost of compilation & startup amortize)

That's the story of every country's industrial development since the British industrial revolution. Bread comes first, clean water and air come second. For rich western countries to forget that and demand that China and India put environment ahead of pulling people out of poverty is myopic at best and, realistically, highly hypocritical.
