You are absolutely correct.
People make mistakes. Even very well trained professionals make mistakes.
Incredibly experienced skydivers die.
Industrial safety is tough despite well designed processes and constant training.
Tradecraft slipups happen.
etc etc
The weak link is the human being.

Skipping over what others have pointed out - you don't interview a co-founder.
a) ensure this is someone you are going to get along with
b) get someone else to assess their technical competence - you can't assess it and the guidelines you provide won't work reliably.

There is a difference between generalizations, which may have value if shrewdly observed, and shallow stereotypical characterizations. This post was shallow. Pointing that out is every bit as value as snide remarks about Reddit and an equally snide uninformed reading of the piece. Perhaps more so.

The health system in the US is a total mess. Single payer is the only sane way to go. That too will be imperfect and ragged but it is provenly absurdly cheaper - practically all advanced industrial countries are single payer and all spend far less as a percentage of their GNP - as in half to a third - whilst covering everybody. The admin savings are staggering, the drug costs are lower etc etc.

IMHO they have a process problem.
To my certain knowledge they haven't followed up and asked why when very very talented people have gotten so sick of the recruitment process that they have opted out. But if you don't take the trouble to figure out what is putting off such candidates your HR is messed up. It's a huge fail.
