The company was started in January 2024, so the seed financing is likely a roll-up of two years of fundraising. $7m for ~30 months of running an AI startup in NYC is not that unusual.

I've read that New Zealand study and it's identifying an effect in a small group of heavy users who started using cannabis very young (a full third as teens) and continue to use it heavily (four times a week) three decades later. That's not a huge surprise.

They also state "cognitive functioning among midlife recreational cannabis users was similar to representative cohort norms". It's clearly shown in Figure 1 - midlife recreational cannabis users actually got smarter than people who quit cannabis according to their data.

There may well be some confounding factor in there. The study was done in New Zealand where cannabis was illegal for the majority of participants, and usage was self-reported so there's a basic issue there as well. One of the meta-analysis citing this (Crisafulli, 2026) and finding no effect criticizes the study design.

That was over 20 years ago? And there were half a dozen Qwest executives who were profiting from insider trading on inflated revenues that started in 1999, long before the NSA incident in 2001. I remember it clearly because I had the misfortune of being a shareholder in that dog.

Seeing all of the archived documents from the 50s and 60s is very cool. But unfortunately everything else I looked at was a giant nothingburger.

Some of the new videos were already identified as imaging artifacts a while ago.

My first job at college was wrangling campus email, both X.400 and SMTP. As the article points out, SMTP won out because it was simple and developed in the open, not buried in standards committees, and SMTP code was widely available. It was the Cathedral and the Bazaar hypothesis playing out in real time.

Just seeing that X.400 notation is giving me bad memories!
