I mean, there's truth on both sides here. Essentially LLMs are good at some stuff bad at others. If you don't use the tool appropriately you are going to hurt yourself. And at the moment there really isn't a very good opinionated good workflow framework for early adopters. Which means unless you have senior engineers the results can be varied.
I can tell you it's saved the day for me on a few occasions and lord knows it can parse docs better than any human and give you what you want in a clear cogent manner. But it's sometimes flat out wrong, and it's sometimes making things harder than you want, or isn't very context aware no matter how much you try to point it in the right direction.
But it's still good at stuff and saves time.
Early adopter pain is early adopter pain.
What scares me more is we are trading short term gains for long term losses here. And we are destroying the feeder system for senior engineers... and that's going to end horrifically.

If there's one thing I have learned in 25 years of this engineering world, it's that if you are trying to solve the byzantine general's problem you are doing it wrong. Don't fight fights you can't walk away from in one piece.

it doesn't mean anything after Microsoft turned over eu government leaders emails to the US.
the damage is done. trump fanning the flames and then using ham fisted threats that frankly carry no weight now... are just making it worse.
the money's already been allocated. the results are inevitable.

One of the horrific elements of 9/11 was that force of compression as the building collapsed basically destroyed bodies beyond even being small parts.
As a result, for years following 9/11 remains ( sometimes very small ) were found and immediately catalogued and DNA tested in the hopes some of the victims would finally have something that could be buried.
It's truly horrific to be unable to tell a family for certain that their loved one is definitely gone. And there are folks from that event who are still entirely missing, no remains found. Their families had to bury empty caskets with a lack of closure.
It's a pretty horrid thing.

So... there once was a company called First data. Founded by some JPMC execs who got chased out of the bank after being caught performing espionage for Palantir.
They sold their transaction platform as a service to Apple Pay. And funneled all your transaction data to palantir.
Financial networks are side channels for intelligence gathering. And that makes the folks doing them outside of your nation an adversary.
With the US choosing to become an enemy of western democracy in Europe, the need for more investment in building trusted core infrastructure is inevitable.
Certainly none of this is ever simple. But this is just a microcosm of a much larger shift across many industries in Europe and we as tech nerds should be mindful of the tectonic shifts that are happening currently. The capital investments occurring have serious long term implications for us all.

yeah I been at this a while I know a bunch of techniques... but sometimes you work on stuff that's... worth the burn. but also brutal in ways you can't expect until you experience it.
anyways... thanks for the kind words. in 2026 we need more kindness and empathy in our comments. =)
And I think folks sharing good design patterns is always worth reading. Mentally healthy work is a good design pattern.

Trying to recover my sanity after a year of complete executive function failure. Tech can lead you to places that will absolutely destroy you mentally and emotionally.
Recovery from that is not something one can easily handle. It's a long slow and usually painful recovery process that requires deep commitment.
Many of us have experienced burn out.. but some of us have seen worse. Engineering truly can lead you to places that both matter a great deal and remind use we were never enough, we were just the people there at the time. Longer I am in this career the more humble I get as each successive challenge hammers me into something different than I was before.
I love it. But god ... sometimes the choose your own adventure goes awry.
