Ugh I’m not sure what I am more confused about. OP on the reddit post is complaining about a package that can be installed from pypi with one pip command being too difficult to install. The fact that he’s complaining about running one pip command even though it’s a command line application it appears, considering he’s asking for a .exe he’s probably never used a command line interface (I somehow doubt he even has a Python interpreter installed on his machine).
And the main concern is that someone like this wants to track down someone’s presence across social media and websites. (That is what the software he’s trying to obtain is for)
I hope no one helps him with this…

What do you mean by the cost of rendering an HTML page in an IDE? You know those markdown previews are almost always rendered by converting them to an HTML snippet first, right? Also HTML does not need to be styled, the tags have their own semantic meanings just like the various semantic structures of markdown. The styling “overhead”, which gets added so the document is easier to visually interpret for a human, is exactly the same. The only time when styling doesn’t come into the equation is when you directly view markdown source.
Also, latency???

0, I don’t even own one because I don’t need one for my daily activities. I can get to work by PT, walk to the supermarket (with multiple options within walking distance of my home), I can also participate in social activities with my friends without having to drive there. And for the 2-4 occasions a year I actually need to go somewhere I can’t reach by other means (or I have to move something I can’t carry on my person) I just rent a car.
Being free from the burden of maintaining a car feels surprisingly liberating.
Especially after growing up in a place where our family had to have a separate car at home for both my father and mother so they could get to their workplaces after dropping us off to school (because there was no safe way for, us the kids to get to school on our from where we lived). It was actually a pretty big financial burden for my family to own two cars even though dad did all the maintenance on both of them.

Honestly this is just a case of open source software users expecting a free lunch. Firstly, the maintainers of this package don’t owe you anything, secondly the new version of neovim and treesitter-cli are already in Arch extra testing, and since they don’t break anything they’ll probably be in extra next week, so chill the fuck out.
If you have a problem with how open source works just please head back to vscode.

In case any Americans are confused, EU Chat Control was never about protecting children. It was about giving tech giants (mostly US based companies) a blanket excuse to spy on end users even on services which are marketed as end-to-end encrypted.
But even if we give the benefit of the doubt and consider it as a measure to fight online CSAM, anyone with a basic understanding of the world would realise that such a measure would at best be useless and at worst detrimental to authorities’ ability to protect children. On account of being overwhelmed with false positives.
And let’s not even go into the implications of enlisting private corporate giants as a sort of auxiliary police force.
