Not really my problem. I'm far from running out of quotas at any given time. I don't use z.ai subscription much for anything else, except Openclaw. I'll upgrade to GLM5 once they'll give me to the lite plan. I'll keep heartbeat at 4.7, just because it's powerfull enough for my current needs, and also I don't want to put more stress on the infrastructure than needed.

Well, if not disclosed you could assume that somebody did due diligence for you, and could include sources. I don't even trust LLM even if all the information is included in the context window if I need reliable information. Trying to make money on slop is really bad manners. It's a scam, you can't call it otherwise.
Btw, I like AI, it did a ton of value for me. We just need to find a way to live with it, without getting doomed in misinformation.

Yeah, its heartbeat. If you keep HEARTBEAT.md empty, it won't be consuming tokens every half an hour. Use cron for periodic tasks if possible, but if you need LLM to process something periodically, that's what heartbeat is for. Z burned 166mio tokens in last 30 days, majority was the heartbeat. Definitely wouldn't pay for that if it wouldn't be the subscription. It uses 1-4% of every 5h quotas. Definitely not sustainable, but I take the opportunity to learn things while it lasts.

I have chromebox (with 32GB DDR4) that idle at 4W, but after adding couple nvme drives it doubled it's power consumption.
Having full ATX mobo is cool (flexibility), with BIOS settings, powertop, and some other settings can also idle at quite low power. I have i7-7700K that idle at 18W. With combination of wake-on-lan and similar you can have a monster but won't empty your wallet.

(February 2026)"

I'm a Linux user (I don't know Apple much). I use devcontainers (the repo I listed) for almost everything, because almost everything is possible to do with about zero overhead. Eg, it won't do memory fragmantation that VMs do, processes are just the same, as on host. GUI apps work just the same as the ones on host, which is really cool. Storage can be an issue if images multiply too much, but not a real issue.
Incus is a bit different, I still evaluate it, so can't comment much. By description is just the very thing I was looking for (a VM, but without VM's overhead). It's amazing, that Debian12 desktop will start in about 2 seconds. Performance is again just the same as on host's machine.
VMs are still cool, I still use them, where I want to be really sure that I won't have a bug that containers would cause them (weird networking and such).
