Well, the land registry database in Serbia hasn't been working for two months now; the government hasn't issued any announcement so far, except for generic system-issue information we get from LRD support. Weird, hopefully we weren't hit too

Probably a stupid question, but isn't giving developers $200 for a Max x20 subscription cheaper than using the API? I was discussing Claude's monthly bills with some friends recently. Most of us are in the $700-$1000 range, and I don't feel like I really spend that much. I have a Max x20 personal account, and I do a ton of work for my side projects through it.

If Ai can generate code, review code, validate correctness, understand reqs, make architectural tradeoffs, operate systems, and take responsibility for outcomes, then we're no longer talking about replacing programmers. We’re talking about replacing most knowledge workers

At that point the debate isn’t really about software engineering anymore

I’d reframe it: you won’t be replaced by someone using AI, you’ll be replaced by someone who is better at using AI and understands the code it generates

Over the last couple of years, I’ve seen plenty of developers who remain barely competent despite having access to powerful AI tools. Generating code is easy. Evaluating whether it’s actually correct and maintainable is the hard part.

I went through something similar recently. I was usually the one organizing everything. meetups, beers, board game nights. At some point I realized that if I didn’t initiate, nothing really happened.

At first I didn’t think much of it, but over time it started to feel one-sided. What really made me stop and think was when they forgot my birthday. Not a huge deal by itself, but it made me notice the patern, that I was putting in way more than I was getting back.

So I slowly pulled back. stopped organizing, stopped trying to keep things going. No drama, just less involvement. And, honestly, I feel a lot better now. Less drained, less frustrated, more at ease overall.

Not sure what to think of it, from one standpoint I basically decided to cut connection with a group of people I was spending my time with for the last ~10 years, from another I decided to keep my energy and focus on myself. These days I mostly hang out with my fiancee and her friends, but in a much more low-key way.

A few years ago, I did a consulting for an IT agency and had insight into their code, including some projects done for the government. It was a worst mess of spaghetti code I've ever seen. For one of those projects they've hired people without any or little experience for cheap, and sold them as seniors for a crazy price.

It was the same in the last two (American) companies I was working for. In both companies, my team and I have done some majestic work. Still, at the end when C-level people and managers were giving aknowledgements and thanks, my team was either not mentioned at all, or we've received some vague aknowledgements for our work...

We still got paid handsomely, but It sucks to be left out from the end credits.

Yeah! We have to create the app presentation each time we submit for certification, and if even one of the text elements from presentation differs from the app it's cert failure... I mean, what the hell LG?!

One time they've sent us cert feedback for another (big) application, instead for our app. All that with their presentation file, login details, and other stuff.

They are still abysmal to work with. I'm working on a webOS TV app and some of the updates require their certification, and their QA team is unbelievable...

I'm in the same shoes, and as ridiculous as it sounds but I've been in programming (self-taught) for 10 years now without an especially good knowledge of math. I've been slacking in HS on math classes, despite the fact that I loved math and was really good once I sat to listen, practice and understand the material. Also, I'm painfully aware of the fact that my math is really bad and that I'm missing on utilizing it in my job, so I've decided to practice at least one hour a day on Khan Academy, and eventually enroll to comp-sci university this year.
