This always happens when an account gets unsuspended on twitter, it shows up as 0 followers and goes back up to the original count over a few hours

The servers on the Mastodon website are servers that have been running for a long time, are trusted, and have a plan for what happens in an emergency (multiple people with full access to everything required)

Displaying to the screen and stuff was already working, you can already use Asahi Linux and have a GUI and everything, it’s just that it’s all rendered by the CPU right now

Except this is a blog post, not a Asahi Lina video … did you even click the link?

Again?! This is, like, the third or fourth time I’ve heard of Pixels not being able to call emergency services.

New comment by puyoxyz in "Birdwatch, Twitter's collaborative fact checking system"

puyoxyz — Sun, 06 Nov 2022 01:49:51 +0000

There was like a few hours where it showed up as Helpful and showing on the tweet on Birdwatch (I saw like two or three separate screenshots of it) but not showing on the actual tweet, so I’m not entirely convinced

> Twitter doesn’t choose what shows up, the people do > > Twitter doesn’t write, rate or moderate notes (unless they break the Twitter rules.) We believe giving people a voice to make these choices together is a fair and effective way to add information that helps people stay better informed.

Well, this isn’t true anymore. There was a birdwatch note on one of Elons tweets that got removed. And it wasn’t removed by the people, because in the Birdwatch UI it still said “this note was voted helpful and is showing on the tweet”.

Here’s a picture of the note before it was removed: https://twitter.com/goldman/status/1588576046743687170?s=46&...

I couldn’t find the picture of the Birdwatch UI showing it’s still helpful and showing on the tweet when it wasn’t :( If anyone really wants it, reply and I’ll look more, I probably have it in my likes

There’s an electron wrapper for macOS and Windows, but it’s the same as the web app, so you’re not missing out on anything.

New comment by puyoxyz in "VideoLAN has issued a legal notice to Indian Gov for banning their website"

puyoxyz — Tue, 04 Oct 2022 07:56:44 +0000

For context: (not sure if this is right, just something I heard somewhere) the VLC website was banned because some people were distributing versions of VLC that included malware (not through the official VLC website, but through other websites), and for some reason instead of banning those unofficial websites they banned the official website

On GrapheneOS[0] (privacy focused AOSP-based mobile OS) you can do that stuff easily while still owning your device/having root, etc (at least according to this video[1] I saw)

New comment by puyoxyz in "Waydroid and Anbox"

puyoxyz — Mon, 03 Oct 2022 01:11:46 +0000

Last I checked, Anbox is completely abandoned by the maintainer and is getting no updates. Waydroid is the new Anbox. No point even considering Anbox over Waydroid
