OpenAI's market cap or valuation estimate went up by about 230 billion dollars within a few weeks after announcing that they solved NS. It can't be known how much of that value change was because of that announcement, but must be at least a good chunk of it.

An enormous portion of my social life is through my church. Bible studies, committee, small groups, Sunday schools are the main structures things, and then you make friends through it and start having other people over and hanging out with them. I don't know what my social life would look like without it.

I'm afraid to have friends at work because I get attached and I feel bad when I leave after 2-5 years. I have to make career moves to get raises and progress, and it's easiest if I'm not too fond of the people around me. This is also the same reason that companies push "culture" and try to emphasize how we're a team or a family.

It was supposed to keep growing exponentially, which this is clearly not. This is up 46% from last quarter, which itself was up 140% from the previous quarter. It's growing revenue, but it's not good news for Anthropic.

More likely it's a part of their ideology and a necessary stepping stone towards their transhumanist goals. It's very fun to think that your robot is actually a person, and a safety measure if you are concerned about something like Roko's Basilisk

I have had the opposite effect. The days where I get 8 hours of good quality sleep per Oura and Garmin have been some of my least productive days, which is always contrary to my expectations. My most productive and focused days are usually when I get 5 hours after a few nights of solid sleep. It might relate to the hangover effect, but I've never really been hung over before so I don't know if that would affect me.

No, I have no idea what it means. Some people seem to think that it's being cheerful and sometimes sycophantic. Others seem to think it's using words clearly and precisely. Some think it means being good at public speaking. It's entirely contextual based on what you're doing. In my field, it means being proactive for identifying issues and communicating when a significant change is made, regardless of means or medium.

I agree with this. It's concerning where we might be after several more large breakthroughs. None of the technology we have right now seems likely to get to that level

Why is anyone still talking about AGI? Every thread starts with asking whether we have AGI, and then backtracks into trying to define what AGI is, and splits off in a dozen different directions.

I'm not so sure about that. I think there are things you can do in either case, but you do not want to be in roofing for 40 years. I would take a 100% sedentary job over roofing 10/10 times
