I feel very lucky in that I bought a handful of SSDs mere months before the prices went insane. RAM, not so much, especially for my new laptop which demands DDR5. It may be a while before I can expand that past the 16GB that came with it.

I dabbled with Flet for a couple of weeks and all I can say is: I wish it were further along in development. Either that, or had more documentation and examples available. I love that it targets all platforms and that it's so easily distributable, but where I ran into problems was with layouts in general and aligning controls with one another specifically. I was ready to drop all other GUI toolkits before I ran into that snag. Perhaps in another year or two I'll take another look.

This was just business as usual 50 to 100 years ago. People started at the bottom and worked their way up. There were no I've-got-a-degree shortcuts because degrees weren't about training for a job, they were about finding out about the world around us. It's interesting that things are starting to circle around, but I doubt any corporation will drop the degree requirements... unless AI CEO's start rejecting all human applications.

I'm trying to find my focus again. After using AI agents for about a year, I've lost my ability to concentrate on anything for more than a few minutes.

I was interested in reading the article but, like so many I find online these days, the white text on black makes my eyes throb to the point of giving me a headache if I don't stop after a few seconds. so I have to give it a miss. I've read that white text on a black background is easier on the eyes, but it's obviously not universal.

What would get me to stay with Linux (I've been going back and forth for the last few years) would be a fully-featured File Explorer work-alike complete with previews of every file type and a full-on context menu copy. One other thing... the ability to right-click any program icon and pin it to the taskbar. They're little things, but whenever I find myself on Windows 11, those are the things I find I missed most... well, other than being able to run File Locator Pro, NotePad++, and Bulk Rename natively.

Oh, and getting some part of the OS/window manager to remember window placement/size. Wayland/GTK don't and this is NOT an innovation, it's trying to turn the desktop into a phone.

Perhaps this AI CEO will bring an end of all this over-paying of top management. Running a corporation isn't rocket science; it's just a matter of putting profit above everything else. Any idiot can do that.

It won't last. Remember (when was it? Last year?) when Musk went after Microsoft for turning Open AI into proprietary closed code? We never know what's going on behind closed doors, but something changed, Musk backed off, and nothing changed.

In the first year of Google search, it was possible to find exactly what you were looking for. The engine paid attention to inclusions, exclusions, the whole nine yards. It was a thing of beauty and it was why Google took over from all the other search engines that used to haunt the Internet of the late 1990's and early 2000's. And if what you were looking for didn't exist? You got 0 hits. (Sigh)

Tobi Lütke also made some rather controversial statements lately, too, agreeing with a retired TD Bank CEO that more votes should be given to the rich. On the surface, this sounds awful, but what Eric Thor actually said was that the number of votes should be tied to the amount of income tax a person pays. Considering that (from what I've heard) billionaires pay no income taxes, I'd say it's not a bad idea. No tax: no vote.

I never thought about it before, but you're right. In the old days (ie. before chat-bots) while writing code, I was usually in an alpha state. This makes so much sense.
