<p>Yeah cash and checks haven't been replaced by mobile banking or mobile payments. Credit and debit card use took over the payment market with digital wallet exploding in the last few years. Electronic transfers took over paying bills with paper checks. None of those need a smartphone or other personal computing.</p>

Traditional automakers are assemblers of modules made by dozens of suppliers. That's why Teslas navigation accounts for traffic, weather, elevation changes, charger speed & availability to plan routes. For legacy car manufactures battery preconditioning is about the most sophisticated route planning feature they'll have.</p>

<p>Also not an expert, it would have to be EMI or maybe the bright light was causing LEDs on the nearby laptop to generate voltage. LEDs can poorly work in reverse.</p>

<p>Not really. Battery density and cost has been improving steadily for a decade. Most manufacturers are installing heat pumps now. The speed of DC fast charging is inconsistent between OEMs, but that's still a factor of infrastructure too. Vehicle to home and Integrated trip planning with battery charging are the biggest areas of improvement for most OEMs.</p>

<p>Apples app store was 3 years old at that point and white hot. The Samsung Galaxy was 2 years old then. If they wanted to go to market with an unpolished product differentiated with a few nifty features, they'd need to spend months paying loads of money to devs to fill out their app store to have a chance.</p>

<p>Newegg was purchased by a Chinese investment firm about 10 years ago.  It's like Walmart.com reseller marketplace over there ever since. I definitely visit my local Microcenter when they have it in stock. They also have a "one time use" coupon for $10 3d printer filament.</p>
