I often wonder if these classifications have long outlived their usefulness, and only lead to endless, often heated, ideological discussions about their definition. To the extent that those benefiting most from observably-broken-form-of-global-capitalism can use that as a tool to sow division and strife and ensure nothing changes. The gist of your and parent's comment is the interesting bit, where new systems and mechanisms are discussed.

Yes, forking is one of the beautiful things of open source. But again there is much more than just "riding the works" in the tight mutual relationship between Forgejo and Codeberg.

Not true. Codeberg is first of all a downstream fork [0] of Forgejo, making adaptations for high-scale use. And it offers additional services that Forgejo does not offer. Then it has a full-blown non-profit organization around it that enables community participation. It is the presidium of the community members that decided on the new ToU.

Forgejo is a hard fork of Gitea with a GPLv3 license, instead of MIT. Codeberg used to be based on Gitea, but it no longer does for many years now.

That doesn't do ActivityPub (or ATProto) justice. The inverse would be "more complicated RSS". But it is way more than that. You get semantically meaningful typed messages on AP. Most people think of AP as what you get on the fediverse, where basically the only type in use is the ActivityStreams Note object. But it can be anything that is transferred in a standards-conform interoperable way.

Spritely has been going strong for many years. I suppose Hoot was created to make Goblins [0] available to a broader public via wasm, as a reference implementation of CapTP specification [1]. Wonder what the timeline is, if any exists, for getting this protocol at a maturity level where it is attractive to implement as an open standard.
