A single 3D CAD license pack for the guys in our R&D group costs multiple thousands of dollars per seat, per month.

I live in Canada. For reasons you might be aware of, me and my neighbors avoid buying any wine, fruits or vegetables that come from the USA nowadays. The USA are not our friends anymore.

Today I bought very nice oranges from Spain, and super sweet and tasty fresh blueberries from Morocco. Price was same as usual in the supermarket.

I am sure the californian peaches could be sold at a reasonable profit , somewhere in the world, if there was actual demand. The problem I see : no demand for US produce.

Exactly. I can see a lot of US apple juice bottles that contain a liquid resembling piss.

It's disgusting.

Real apple juice is dark brown and tastes nothing like the golden liquid mentioned above.

An unpatched computer on the internet is basically like leaving a loaded gun visible on the ledge of your first-floor opened window.

Aiding and abetting might come to mind, if someone gets hurt by that gun.

The problem is not you being inconvenienced.

The problem is making your machine part of a botnet that will attack ME.

I don't like that.

I understand your point and motivation completely. And I agree...

However in today's world if you expose an unpatched "anything" to the internet then it is very possible that it will be discovered and eventually used to (silently) do things you don't want. Think DDOS farms, illegal software distribution etc...

What is the middle ground? I don't think there is one. We need to have reliable, automatically updated OSes which don't suck and , much more importantly, run the applications we need.

That is definitely NOT Windows.
