A dog will show you happy attention by wagging its tail, going all over you happily , roll around and be excited.

A cat? Slow eye blink.

(it's funny, laugh!)

Fortunately I am Canadian and enjoy my freedom to say "AI" ... like the rest of the world.

Not at all. Trump ordered everyone , during his speech at the United Nations , to use "SI" from now on, instead of "AI". That was one of his important priorities.

If you see someone use "SI" they are sending you a signal. Just politely correct their mistake.

You made a typo. The term used by practioners of the art and generally understood worldwide is "AI", not "SI"...

New comment by realo in "America.gov"

realo — Wed, 30 Sep 2026 15:42:50 +0000

Totally!

That is why every CC country part of the Americas should start a government web site named america.CC and be done with it.

Canadian here.

America is not the USA. There' North America, Central America, South America.

This "america.gov" makes me feel weird.

Maybe we should have "america.ca" here as well.

New comment by realo in "In an $80 motel room, a discovery to shed light on the origins of life"

realo — Sun, 27 Sep 2026 17:35:13 +0000

Quoting the article:

"The team — brought together, in part, by disruptions and despair over the Trump administration’s freezes to federal science funding — then made an exciting discovery."

Apparently this is the new way of life for Scientists under the Trump regime.

Sad.

realo — Sat, 26 Sep 2026 15:16:01 +0000

That "just" is quite the load-bearing seam ...

Particularly when the task here is "just" to measure some rod positions in a constrained 3D space ...

And all that expensive engineering is still less costly AND faster (!!) than a new software certification.

Cannot refrain myself from asking why ...

realo — Thu, 24 Sep 2026 17:39:13 +0000

How much do you think it costs, in total, per prisoner today, per year?

Yeah. A one-shot investment of 10k$ per prisoner to avoid more manslaughter cases is peanuts, really.

New comment by realo in "OpenAI expands ChatGPT ads with Sponsored Agents"

realo — Wed, 16 Sep 2026 16:59:09 +0000

We are not living on the same planet.

I do not want cheaper, I want quality at a reasonable price. Sometimes I even accept an unreasonable price for the quality (think Apple stuff). I will never buy crap at cheapest bargain prices.

Cheap clothes barely survive a couple of washes, good quality clothes survive much, much longer. Yes, they are more expensive short term, quite a bit less expensive long term.

Also, not once, ever, was my buying decision influenced by an ad. What influences my decisions is the problems, the defects i will have, or not, with what I chose to buy. Usually, the longer time it works the more expensive it is.

Catastrophic failure? Check

Plane landed without casualties? Check

Plane design so good it helped avoid casualties? Check

Hum... Ah! Not an american Boeing but a french Airbus. Of course.

The article mentions this story should make everyone a little less afraid of flying.

Sure, as long as its not on a Boeing plane.
