Even in the absence of designers' desire to play with established UI: humans respond positively to a mix of accessible novelty and familiar patterns.
Knowing when to apply novelty and when to apply the familiar is the game.

Just published the first version of cardspark_ui [1], a library of polished, themable UI components for TCG apps. Kind of like shadcn for pokémon cards
I worked at a startup [2] building in the space for a few years and it reignited my childhood love for collecting and trading, and turned me on to the software side of the industry.
We're in a little golden age of DIY collecting tools now, but most hobbyists and sellers don't have a design background and get stuck recreating the same primitives (badly).
I spent a lot of time thinking about them, so I'm packaging them up and offering them for free. This first release has the basics (cards, grids, stacks, filters, value charts, detail pages), with more coming soon.
[1]: https://cardspark.dev
[2]: https://rarecandy.com

Hey, I'm Rebekah and I'm building Popmelt, a browser-native toolkit for UI engineering with local LLM CLIs
*tl;dr* Popmelt gives UI engineers and designers a lightweight set of visual feedback and styling/layout tools that talk directly to local LLM CLI instances so you can create and refine your product directly in the browser. This first version is built for React (I've mainly used it with Next.js projects) and plays well with Claude Code and Codex. It's free to use and I plan to keep it that way.
I started working as a designer and front-end developer on the web in my teens, making myspace layouts for local bands. Since then, I've worked in agencies, ecomm, and startups, bouncing between design and code depending on what each team or client needs.
As LLM code generation has gotten faster and more reliable in the last ~12 months, I've found myself spending more time working with code (directly and indirectly) earlier and earlier in my design process. Last November, design and development have more or less collapsed into a single code-driven step for me, with multiple LLM sessions running in parallel to keep the loop between idea, testing, and iterating as tight as possible.
Along the way I developed a way of working that lets me spend most of my time interacting with the page/product I'm designing without looking at the underlying code. Popmelt bottles that way of working, and saves me from having to flip between the thing I'm designing and the LLM sessions powering it. The repo's README covers most of the details, and I'm happy to answer any questions folks have. Critical feedback is also very welcome.
Thanks for looking!

Amen. It's one real "downside" in this day and age is that it requires fairly undivided attention to be used... that aside, it's without question my favorite way to interact with information.
On that note, a big thank you to whoever added "read this page" to Safari on iOS! Being able to turn long form articles into ad-hoc podcasts has been a game changer for me.

Canva destroyed graphic design well before LLMs caught up, but UX is still (somewhat surprisingly) on the ropes.
My bet: front end devs who need mocks to build something that looks nice get crowded out by UX designers with taste as code generation moves further into "good enough" territory.
Then those designers get crowded out as taste generation moves into "good enough" territory.

Yeah, this is notable. If true, every mobile carrier getting hit at the same time says "coordinated incident", from whatever source and for whatever purpose.
Edit to say: my Verizon FioS and cell service are both working fine, no noticeable interruption at any point today.
Second edit to say: never mind, downdetector's home page normalizes report spikes so 1k and 100k both look identical.

This isn't inherent, just a side effect of poorly designed text UI. Suggestions on the input, manual commands, or honest answers in response to the question "what can you do" all do as good a job as a GUI does, and sometimes a better job.
So many of the complaints I hear about TUIs just come down to bad design. Even one input and textual responses require thoughtful design.
That's design as in function, not color palette. Although... that too.

As usual, size matters. Equating typical 401(k)s with the economic activity of the class GP is referring to is... absurd.
But pretending small-time participation in public markets is the same as billionaire participation in private markets is a great way to convince the lower classes our financial system isn't structured to move wealth away from them.
