Something about SQLite at the core just seems to drive a direction I like, and pushes an open ethos. (Shout outs to Grist in this arena as well.) So much power in such simple interfaces… and when I saw you could just drop in your own SQL into Eidos, I shed a tear at the graveyard of my never-quite-working attempts at data-fying Obsidian.

We've been doing something similar to support comics who lost some or all of their paying gigs; but using the alternate model of free-to-watch, donations-welcomed. We're also still working through the best format; some performers work great in a "vacuum" (and/or create new styles for the medium). Interaction through the chat is also fun, but as mentioned, not suited for real time.

We've also got some other ideas to increase the interaction being tinkered with. We've been able to really help some folks, whether through monetary means or just to give them a place to perform they wouldn't otherwise have. (Honestly, the most feedback we get from performers is how thankful they were to just get to perform again, a feeling of normalcy, such as we have these days.)

Some simple/weird workarounds: literally move the Preview window offscreen, and/or open a Windowed Projector (popup) for Preview (but again keep Preview off screen).

When I had a Model S loaner, I was blown away how much they've simplified just from S to 3: wide open interior, reduction in the [already spartan] amount of physical controls. (I also briefly had a Kia loaner for that same visit, and I felt like a monkey trying to operate an Apollo spacecraft, unable to find the switches and dials for everything.)

Tesla, whether for cost cutting or genius, simply said "do you really need all of these manual/physical controls, or can it be A) done automatically via software, or B) put onto a single screen?", and it, in my opinion, has worked quite well. Yes the "AI" wipers took time to come around, and you hit the occasional UI bug, but it's far and away a very acceptable trade off for a magnitude more space in the cabin and (if you appreciate such things) clean, simple, lines throughout. Even the silly flip down LED visor mirrors delight people the first time they use them in my car.

AP/FSD may never get where they claim, but I've taken many-hundred mile trips with AP on (on highways), and even my drive to work is immensely better with AP in long stretches, so I consider it well worth the [AP] cost. As ridiculous as it sounds, all those micro-movements on the road do add up and take a toll on you during drives.

I actually drive fairly conservatively (turning into my "slow lane is fast enough" father), but for demos and when I do really want to pass someone, the acceleration and instant power still marvels. :)

The strips eventually ruin my skin, or don't stick through the night (they come off and eventually stick to my foot, or my cats...). So I finally turned to "nose cones". The ones on Amazon and the local pharmacies are barely passable, so I did the unthinkable in this day and age and ordered some "Max Air Nose Cones" directly from the manufacturer. Don't want to seem a link shill, so Google/Duck, or just find it as the domain name is the product name. I use the Max Air for exercise (clear) and the Sinus (beige, a bit more stiff) for sleep.

Still not a perfect solution, but cheaper, reusable (still on first set), and less skin irritation than other solutions.

It would be great if you could filter the reviews not only by the form factor (8 pack, 1 pack, etc.) but also the vendor. If anyone at Amazon is reading this...

TBH I recently bought an end table that had 0 reviews, and it was kind of an adrenaline ride. "I'm supposed to judge this product simply by what I see on the page, and my own investigative capabilities? How quaint!". :)

"Being in ketosis" is hard to track; the urine test strips are helpful but not always accurate. Someone came up with a breath analyzer at some point but I lost track of the project.

Some recent stuff has shown that a 24-36hr fast can "kick start" ketosis as well; anecdotally it seems to work for me, but again I have to kind of go by feel. (Or if I note that I suddenly drop the 3-5 lbs of water weight that came on when out of ketosis.)

The goals/advantages, vs just using a USB thumb drive:

- will connect to your wifi network (when detected) and copy off your saved dashcam files (over CIFS, SSH, others) - fixes any FAT filesystem errors on the virtual USB drive (presented to the host using g_mass_storage) automatically; some Tesla software versions had/have a bug that left the filesystem dirty on shutdown, rendering some thumb drives unreadable until formatted again

- (in process testing) uses BTRFS to keep the drive online while taking snapshots to do the file copies (and other neat things I have planned, like extending the 1-hour rolling buffer that Tesla uses by copying off files older than 1 hr into a secondary backing store on disk to be copied off later)

- automated (headless) setup by putting a configuration file in /boot (including wifi setup)

- quite a few more ideas to come; love to hear more brainstorms too. Maybe with a little more work it's worth its own Show HN? :)

I've learned a lot about how little I remembered about bash, how Raspbian images are built, setting up Jenkins for automated builds, even controlling the LED on the Pi to show progress of headless setup. (Sometimes it's the little things...)

On the to-do list was something exactly like this post: provide a way to get to the files if you are away from your home network, and/or don't have a computer with a USB or SD reader handy. Say, if you had just gotten in an accident and wanted to get to the files pronto. So, a way to trigger the Pi popping into AP mode was my next area of exploration; timely! I was actually exploring having your phone make a BT connection that would cause the host to switch configs (either automatically, or using BT PAN. (And a web UI to grab files, make settings changes, etc.) Good thoughts on security in some of the comments, and glad to see others have thought through this.
