I have been working on reverse engineering SQLite in Go. Not exactly as I am borrowing some features from other databases so it is not a 1 to 1 exact replica but the main idea is the same and I have been keeping it as close as possible. A simple embedded single file database. It's an ongoing effort but I wanted to share what I have done so far after over a year.

A small RAG server written in Golang with sqlite and weaviate used for Corpus/knowledge base and Gemini model. It provides API to upload PDF files to the corpus and to query for an answer from specific documents. Returned answer contains references with specific pages where the answer was sourced from. Hopefully at least somebody will find it useful. Please provide any feedback, suggest new features to work on etc.

Do you live alone or with other people and you split the rent? How much do you pay for council tax and bills? 600 is very cheap in London.

If you took out mortgage when interest rates were really low, it’s possible to have your own place and spend about that much per month if you live frugally (well at least until you need to remortgage in few years and rates might be much higher). If you are renting though I also finding it difficult to believe. I was spending around 1600 pounds per month and I was living very modest live, spending little and trying to save as much of my income as I could.

So more small businesses by people living in the area would be encouraged (think small mom-and-pop shops) rather than multinational chain restaurants. It’s a good thing.

Could be a factor at tech companies where lot of compensation is in a form of equity options. Especially smaller / medium sized tech companies have had their stocks go down by 50-80% in some cases. So now you’re earning much less than you thought you did plus inflation is out of control further reducing your real income.

I agree, this is pretty normal across the industry. Sales people just trying to do their job and sell their product. Sometimes they are quite persistent but why complain, if you are not interested in the product they are selling, just ignore their emails.

Very time consuming so probably lot of companies will skip on this to deliver features faster.
Having robust documentation that contains all the knowledge so a completely new team without any project knowledge can easily deploy/support the project can be a big task, especially for large projects.
Even with really good documentation, there will always be required some handover and initial training from the maker team in my experience, it is almost impossible to avoid this.
I guess during sprint planning, if this requirement is being included and the estimates from developers start doubling suddenly the product team might compromise in order to move faster.

You don't need 3k per month that is certainly lavish and I would expect that to be supported by 2 incomes so a couple living together and splitting rent and bills 50/50. If you are living alone you should aim for about half of that in central London.
