On the slim chance that anyone at Apple reads this... I can't justify buying one of these as I already own multiple more powerful macbooks in similar sizes.
...but if you made a smaller one, the same physical size as an 11inch ipad, then yeh I would instantly buy one as my sling-book for light coding work in cafes!
It would also quiet down many of those calling for macOS on the iPad.

Many thanks to Obsidian for reinforcing the strength of file-over-apps in daily computer use. Consider this as a baseline for your entire setup, and you will spend much less energy fussing over finding the optimal programs, operating systems, or ecosystems. Just manage your files, and everything else can come and go.

An 11" version of this proposed A-series chip Macbook is exactly what I would want to see, and would more likely expect to see from Apple's sales perspective, than an iPad that is capable of running MacOS.
A tiny Macbook that I can slip into a sling bag is more preferable to me than an iPad for many tasks.

On more than a few occasions now I have loaded up my infrequently checked instagram accounts and been presented with something awful. They were always attention seeking reels from random accounts I don't follow; showing people being hurt or accident footage. I swipe up on the app and kill it pretty much straight away, then I consider deleting my instagram accounts once again.

Academics do make novel games! The 'walking simulator' genre and the 'idle clicker' genre were both spawned in academia. However they weren't made by those in the computer sciences, but the humanities. Coding is no longer a barrier to making games and the more fertile ground is currently in the humanities.

Ironically Apply had the same problem themselves with respect to their choice of CPU. They protected the future of their company by secretly maintaining two versions of MacOSX, one that ran on PPC and another that ran on Intel. That was a smart move. Consider maintaining (or planning) your company's shift to another platform, or going platform agnostic.
