I have a legacy WP blog that I wanted to migrate to some static architecture for ages but IMHO users should be able to comment and maybe even post a pingback. I know, old MT days. But social media is always about getting (positive) comments and feedback, not just dropping statements and knowledge.

I also don't want to tie my site to disqus or other 3rd party cloud services and their implication on GDPR.

While this will probably happen over time, free* offerings are an anomaly you can‘t build a business on. But even 1€/months minimum is probably too low to cover costs.

They will lose. The only areas Germany can compete, are that with broad APIs. Take HBCI/FinTS for banking. Go API or go out of business. I‘m pretty sure Piknik and Flaschenpost will offer agentic agent compatible APIs at some point.

Surprised how little the B2C and even B2B e-commerce segment is providing API access for automation and agentic coding. One could easily set up rate limits, fraud detection and KYC checks upfront initial access.

This lead to even more strict echo chambers because they effectively kill different opinions. The bubble will become even more strict and radical to people that are not living the cult.

I second this. Even moderation of mastodon.social and related OSS projects is toxic. It was the biggest disappointment of the last couple of years to me, even worse than Twitter ever had been.

I built a ruby cli (back when Thor was a thing) that does most of the stuff, but I still edit the zone itself using vim („dns edit “ launches vim). PowerDNS has nice cli to deal with DNSSEC and bind (file) backend so I don’t have to deal with it by hand.

Of course I am the only user. But YAGNI works for me.

UBI/UBS requires a very solidaric community. But the current situation (in Germany) is not about finding any job but taking a low paid, hard working or even dangerous job (nursing service, shifter, even soldier, public sector).

UBI makes it even harder to find people for that kind of jobs. Not paying any social benefits and increasing the pressure on the unemployed to take these jobs is much more interesting for everyone that is not unemployed. Please don't judge me for writing this. It's the feeling I have, not my view.

I also took the route of finding a new hobby (biking, all things bike mechanics, even politics) but of course it's not paying any of my bills. That's the point. While I helped making other people very rich, I never owned shares or got a bonus after an exit.

A couple of years ago Bloomberg reported about spy chips/hw backdoors in SuperMicro mainboards but to my knowledge without a smoking gun proof. Maybe they had to settle outside of court and also had to sign papers to help protect the company from further damage in the future. Using (other) Bloomberg material may have triggered this. Of course this is a wild speculation. I have no evidence or insider knowledge.

I enabled DNSSEC a couple of years ago on my self hosted powerdns setup. I sign the zone locally, than build docker containers via SSH on the target nodes.

I made a mistake once and signed with wrong keys which then broke DANE. It‘s good to validate your DNSSEC (and DANE, CAA etc.) setup through external monitoring.
