These calculations cannot possibly be true. That extra cost is way too small when tires have such a wide range of prices.

Did you read the article? The head of the union billed 800 hours of overtime for reviewing traffic reports that could have been reviewed by lower level officers for a fraction of the cost. There was no tracking of how many reports he actually reviewed. Overtime has gone up even as staffing has. It's clear the system is being abused.

Craigslist is often held up as an example of a company "doing it right", but what is never mentioned in these posts is that a large portion of their revenue comes from facilitating scams. Around 25% of rooms/apartments I contact are scams, and Craigslist has so far done nothing to prevent these. A common scam is to take pictures from a real estate site of a house that recently sold and advertise it as for rent, but they don't even let you say "I live at this house and do not want to rent it, don't let anyone post it".

A few thoughts:
Unless you were fired for misconduct, its usually better to say you were laid off. Its worth figuring out what information the company will give out. If you didn't leave on good terms, have a friend call and ask for employment verification. If it was a legitimate company based in the US, its likely they'll give dates of employment and nothing else.
Get some thoughts down in writing, especially what went wrong/what you could have done better. Its pretty common to be unhappy at a job and wanting to leave, so its good to figure out how to do that without making it too obvious.
Don't be shy about reaching out to people who still work at the company you left. It always feels more awkward to you than it really is.
By far the best thing you can do to minimize damage is get another job as soon as possible. It's really easy to get in a rut after a setback and get discouraged, procrastinate, then before you know it a few months have gone by and you have a 'gap' on your resume to explain.
It's tough, but remember that this exact situation happens to way more people than it seems. Its just someone nobody brings up so it seems rare. You'll get through it.

Is there really that much high-signal data that is not already being used? Is their advantage in finding signals in data that other people overlook, or finding new data sources?

I've had multiple rift owners tell me to get a vive because 'it does room scale'. Their website still doesn't mention anything about the touch enabling better tracking and room scale experiences! How could they screw up marketing this bad?
To be honest I'm still not even sure if I'm wrong about it supporting room scale, I've seen articles mention it but their website gives me doubts.

Isn't Alphabet's P/E twice that of Apple? 13 vs 25 if I remember correctly. Doesn't this imply that it's Google, not Apple, that people are counting on to 'produce industry-changing smash hits over and over again'?
