I'm a data scientist/machine learning engineering type, with a BS in math and an MS in statistics with over 8 years of experience at large companies, startups and consultancies. I have a solid background doing advanced modeling at places like Deepmind, Numerai, and for Fortune 500 companies (stuff like convex portfolio optimizers, Nonnegative matrix factorization for collab filtering, RL for stock trading, etc). I great at creative ML pipelines go beyond out of the box models.

Well, as the deer die off there are more resources left for the remaining deer, and so it is easier for them to have kids and the birth rates might increase. So it could potentially converge to a predator-prey equilibrium

Hey,

It seems to me like there is a lot of cool stuff that lives ontop of basically neat forms of on doing deep math based on graphical structures (like NN computational graphs/backprop, traditional graphical models, data provenance, differential privacy to some extent, etc).

This seems to be 1. newer stuff 2. cross sub discipline boundaries, so I was wondering if any of y'all knew a good text book to get into these and the broader theory and math

College seems to me to be geographically structured to help you make friends. I remember reading one study that shows basically repeated random interactions with the same person will tend to develop towards making friends with them organically. Well how does college work? You take classes in your major, where you will meet other people with a common interest. Also you might live in the dorms, eat at the mess hall, etc where you're also going to bump into the same people again and again.
