The story sounded almost too crazy to be true. Mohan (S1r1u5) investigated and reconstructed the likely attack chain, examined the patches, and reproduced vulnerabilities that match the public disclosures.

Was this really a rogue AI, clever marketing, or "just" an agent that lost track of its task and caused real-world damage?

HF could not be helped by US frontier models because of the "safety" features they have.

HF had to use an open model from china.

Anthropic wants to add those "safety" features to open models - especially from china.

End result would be HF hack would have continued atleast until the Monday that OpenAI engineers finally walked back into work.

(Basically they have a reasonable price showing and when you pay with a credit card you see your banks charges you a huge amount. It can be as simple as in Mexico $ is used for pesos so if the merchant actually charges you USD that's 20x or so rip off).

But... This isn't mutually exclusive, why can't I set a price on my smartphone when I pay by contactless?

The other benefit is that there QR codes are bank transfers. Which have substantially less recourse and less rights for the consumer. Probably doesn't matter for a $10 sandwich but still significant.

Perhaps the solution is that some apps and data is in a locked area that would require a further pin once the device is unlocked.

So the duress pin unlocks the device but wipes that region.

I think many OSs offer Locked data options, Google Photos, Samsung etc.

I imagine the kind of advertising you're talking about is obtained by providing that documentation and a curated training dataset to the providers.

Maybe even funding some training time.

The net result would be product placement, probably without having to declare an advert.

Kind of like when drug manufacturers provide subsidized workshops to clinicians.

But back of the envelope it seems you're shaving not much off if the latency is primarily WiFi latency (tens of milliseconds) not flash reads (microseconds?).

If you use loads of transient clients perhaps a LRU cache would help since round trips might be quite slow.

Rpi5 has a pcie slot if you want a cleaner setup.

This is (literally) none of my business, but would you consider a cut down or basic open source version (hardware and software, with open software running in the proper hardware). Yes it'll be cloned by factories, and yes it will cut into sales no matter what proponents claim. (And yes it's probably more work than I imagine it is).

But also yes, it'll be genuine open hardware and might out live your interest in the project.
