I think this generally works, at least as a justification for price increases (if your suppliers increase their price, people don't blame you for increasing yours). But this is also true:
> Extremely high profit margins (>55%) could trigger a negative reaction, although this was not tested.
We don't see Google talking much about its costs, for instance.

Exactly this. As a reader, I want to search old posts when I have time to read them and am looking for a specific topic, rather than wait for a weekly email and hope it's relevant.

Could someone please help me understand why chip manufacturing is so hard? Like why hasn't China already figured out how to do it? It's obviously a huge strategic priority for them, yet it seems like they don't have the requisite expertise to do it themselves. Other bleeding edge tech they are fully on top of (the software side of AI for example). Why is that?

Could you please explain to someone from the web domain with very little experience with compiled C programs why this is significantly better than, say, distributing a python program? Python runs on all the platforms mentioned. Or alternatively requiring compilation from source?

I don't think the odds is really part of the distinction. If you find a way to "gamble" with positive expectation, by profiting from sports betting markets for example, you are still labelled irresponsible and reckless compared to real "investors" who buy stocks, even when those bets are clearly unwise.
