To me it's not useful because the level of granularity is off from the level I am currently working with.

Also it creates a uniform level of granularity. The great thing about AI coding is that you can go deep and detailed in hard sections and just plain ignore the simple stuff.

It's just useless to build any model in this range because deepseek flash is so fast and so cheap. I see no reason for anyone to not use it for a few points in performance.

Only models that matter are the edge fable class models people use for code, and Google struggled with that.

I am sure it's very performant, but to me it's extremely ugly; Surely someone can fix margins and still have it be performant.

I think the argument for the pelican is if it cannot do a simple thing perfectly. A more complex thing is just a stacking a small errors.

Chinese open models are only push Anthropic and Open AI to innovate more, they are a good thing.

If they don't want distillation attack they should use KYC.

Sure, China will build a lead in robotics, drones and weapon tech.

They will invade Taiwan, US defends, WW3.

If they don't have a military/tech lead, the status quo remains.

Totally agree with all of this. Most of the problems we solve with AI are not one shot, all the bench marks also miss the human components when testing. Thinking alongside with a human and coming to a solution is what Fable does better than most other models.

The amount of scientific talent in China is astounding, also it's easier to be a fast follower than a innovator.

Instead of limiting models and debating ethics like Anthropic, the edge lab should focus on lengthening the lead on China.

The 2027 Chinese model could be one that beats the US.

There are now 3 tiers of competition:

-Fable + Gpt 5.6 Sol

-Opus + Gpt 5.6 Terra + Grok 4.5 + Muse Spark 1.1

-Open Chinese models: GLM + et family

The economics is on the Fable tier people are willing to spend a lot on it and on the Open tier you have to give it away to drive usage. The bottom tiers are also getting more and more competitive.

The papers can make it free, they can just build a convenient search/retrieval API layer so Open AI and Anthropic don't pay 1-2 engineers a year at 1-2m to crawl and index that info for training.

The AI services have an option then to pay for this service, support a open service, or write their own crawler. I think if every open AI request didn't just do a web search but a more targeted arXiv search the results would be better.

The use of the "cheaper models" in big AI companies are next to useless as they don't even score as well as the open/super cheap Chinese models. Only the frontier big models like Fable and Opus have value.
