I switched from Svelte/SvelteKit to Svelte/Laravel and my productivity went through the roof. Same would apply with Rails or probably other batteries included backends. SvelteKit gives you SSR but that’s it. Laravel/Rails/etc gives you database, queues, real time support, authentication, authorization, the list goes on.
I plan to make my next YouTube video making my case for why Laravel is better with Svelte than SvelteKit is https://youtube.com/@samldev

In this scenario you’d also have to pay for bandwidth since that’s the variable cost here. The more views you get, the more you pay. And obviously you wouldn’t get any money from YouTube for views since they aren’t making money from your videos.
Genuinely curious, would you still go for it?

I was a college swimmer, qualified for Olympic Trials in 2012 and 2016. There are absolutely slow and fast pools. It basically comes down to two things:
1. The depth - which is only 7ft in Paris, unusually shallow for a competition pool.
2. The sides. Does the water spill over the sides into the gutters, or smash into a wall and bounce back, creating more chop.
A trained eye can see all the swimmers in Paris struggling in their last 10-20 meters (heck, an untrained eye can spot some of these). Bummer that it makes the meet feel slow but at least it generally affects all the swimmers equally

Hey HN, this is my first side project launch that I've actually seen through to the finish line.
My wife and I have used "buckets" to track/budget our spending for a few years. This was the first method to really stick for us after trying multiple other budgeting apps that made the process too overwhelming. We just used a spreadsheet to track it for a while, but the mobile experience of spreadsheets isn't great.
So I decided to write up the method we use[1] and create a web app that makes it easy to use. I recommend reading the method page linked below to see if Buckets might be a good fit for you! It's a short read, just a few minutes.
I hope it helps out some other people as much as it helped us. We now feel more in control of our spending and spend our money guilt free, because we rarely make impulse purchases anymore so we know our money goes towards the things we really want.
You can try Buckets for free, no credit card required. I'll hang around this post for a bit to discuss with you all!
P.S. this is my first app with the concept of "Specific Software" in mind, which I wrote about here:
https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=40905398
[1] https://buckets.money/method
Sam

https://saml.dev
So far I’ve only got a few posts related to local-first home automation, which for me is Home Assistant and my open source library gome-assistant for writing automations in Go.
I plan to add some write ups for my woodworking projects as well when I get around to it. It exists for me to share things with friends/family and any others that are interested, and I don’t intend to force myself to write on any particular cadence.
