New comment by samlinnfer in "Why the software industry needs a lot of regulation"

samlinnfer — Mon, 14 Sep 2026 13:50:07 +0000

Code is speech, and if you aren't allowed to run the code, what good is it being being available or free? Any "regulations" would start by restricting code, it's no different from saying writers need a lot of regulations because of dangerous or badly written text/books/publications has caused a lot of damage.

samlinnfer — Wed, 02 Sep 2026 14:34:32 +0000

I really want to see that robot door-opening, shirt-folding, orange-peeling and sandwich making competition. It would be like the housework championships. If your robot works it would sell like hotcakes right there.

New comment by samlinnfer in "There's no such thing as a small software team anymore"

samlinnfer — Fri, 21 Aug 2026 03:06:09 +0000

Thousands of microservices = thousands deployments that can fail, that needs to kept compatible, that needs to be able to find each other, that needs to be monitored. This is just pushing the pain downwards.

Cool thing about gitolite is that you manage it using text files and committing to the gitolite admin git repository.
