In Thiel's Zero to One he writes, "A good startup should have the potential for great scale built into its first design". This is counterintuitive to the premature optimization problem, what's commonly understood as bad since it creates unnecessary work and complexity in software design.
What are some examples of premature optimization that negatively (or positively) effected the companies you worked at?

I like that a lot of the comments are concerned with Go's failure to replace C++ as the de facto systems language yet Rob Pike doesn't mention anything about this in a retrospective article about what the language designers got wrong. He must be so embarrassed about it.

A Firefox browser extension to shake up the comment thread.
I sometimes think, what does the person showing up late, much like myself, think about this or that topic.

I often have to boot back into the live media because I forgot to install a tool like iwd while chrooted. This information is not included in the single page installation guide. Maybe it’s those scripts i’m unfamiliar with that would shorten the feedback loop.

What’s to stop a terrorist from severing one of these cables and severely debilitating the global network? I’m sure redundancy would stop such issues but still.

I started waking up 2 hours before work for avocational activities, and that gradually became 4 hours before. I feel as sharp as a razor once I wake up. Granted, I have to be asleep by 10, but I don't stress about working on my side projects after 9 hours of work. I can fill that time with audio books, cooking and working out.
