Firefox profiles are indeed great. Especially as they're so easy to backup and restore across machines, even different OS. Some simple fiddling with installs.ini and profiles.ini then run Firefox with -P as you say and you're good to go.
I've used this process for over a decade, probably more than 15 years now I think about it. Hard to remember! Sadly it doesn't work with Firefox on Ubuntu anymore due to that being a snap package. I'm sure there is a simple enough solution to get it working the same with the snap version but I instead prefer to remove the snap version of Firefox on Ubuntu and use the release directly from download.mozilla.org as I have the download, install and restore all automated for Windows, macOS and Linux so why make my life harder with snaps just for Ubuntu? :)

Well yes of course. Upgrading year over year you're not going to really see any major changes. Going from a 14 Pro Max to a 15 Pro Max is pretty minor.
My comment was more that I've not had any of the issues I've seen reported over the past few days. No overheating. No screen issues. No battery life issues.
I'm not saying they don't exist of course. I was just adding my personal experience to add balance.
I will add that while the upgrade from my Xs Max is obviously pretty big it is still iOS at the end of the day and it isn't actually any different in general. It does a few new things like the Always On Display but overall it is the same as my Xs Max just faster/smoother. Naturally the camera upgrades are very impressive as is the Pro Motion screen. My Xs Max had a battery replacement 9 months ago so it still had good battery life but the 15 is clearly much better. Even with the always on display it loses around 1% battery every 4-5 hours which is what I would expect. My Xs Max would also lose around 1% every 4-5 hours even without that feature.
Naturally I am interested in hearing about these issue as it alerts me to keep an eye out for such issues developing for myself, but as with anything reported on places like Twitter I take it with a grain of salt as it could just be someone deliberately damaging their device to drive engagement and grow their presence sadly.

Perhaps I am just very lucky but I got my 15 Pro Max on Wednesday just gone and it's been nothing short of fantastic. I upgraded from a Xs Max which was 5 years old and it is a superb upgrade imho. Battery life has been excellent getting me a near two full days use even with me setting the charge limit to 80% with the new option in settings. And I've not had the hot device issues I've seen a few reports of. Going for a run on Saturday the device stayed cool while tracking my run. Taking a bunch of pictures, etc. All has been just fine as expected. So far I am very happy with it.
I find it hard to believe anyone is getting burn in on a device that hasn't even been in consumers hands for a month yet. I'm sure it is possible but even the cheapest OLED panels take time to get burn in.

16GB base would be nice but given Apple wanting to keep the entry price as low as possible I can't see it happening for a few more years. On the plus side I do find the 8GB unified memory design makes an 8GB Apple Silicon system "feel" like a 16GB Intel/AMD system in terms of memory use. It isn't identical and you can notice the difference at times but an 8GB Windows/Intel laptop such as a Dell XPS side by side with an 8GB MacBook Air and the Air feels a far better machine over all when using it normally.

I personally use a 16" 2023 M2 Max MBP maxed out and it is honestly god like.
However a good friend of mine uses the latest M2 powered Air with 16GB RAM and a 1TB SSD (the 24GB upgrade so a stretch too far for him) and I have to say it is a damn good machine and I could use it without much trouble. It doesn't throttle nearly as much as you would think for a fanless unit. Obviously it isn't as fast and he does hit swap when under a heavy workload whereas I am yet to hit swap but I also have 64GB vs his 16GB.
So to answer your question. Yes I think the Air is an excellent development machine for 'up-to and maybe a little over' a "heavy-medium" development workload. If you're doing a lot on the machine then you will hit its limits for sure but if you're just running Xcode and a simulator or two, etc. or PyCharm and docker, etc. you will be just fine.
If you're doing anything GPU heavy it isn't a great option but other than that I highly recommend it.
However I suggest you look at the total price once you add in 24GB RAM and more SSD storage (at least 1TB imho) vs the 14" MacBook Pro. There isn't a huge difference between them yet the 14" Pro is basically as good as my 16" for most things. Especially if you can find a good returned unit on sale cheap via the Apple Refurb store. The machines are as good as new, same warranty, etc. Well worth checking out.

Oh yes price increases before planned "sales" are common. I believe there are laws in the UK/EU regarding time frames an item has to be at a certain price before you can say it is "on sale". Something like 28 days sounds familiar so doubling the price of an item that doesn't sell much and having limited (or none?) of the item in stock then dropping it to usual price and calling "half price" no doubt happens constantly with seasonal items like Cadbury Roses.

Yes and it is always worth paying attention to as often items on some kind of offer and so advertised within the store may not be the best value possible for the item.
Toilet rolls are a great example. Sometimes you see the 24 pack "on sale" or "buy one get one half price" yet the cost per roll (unit) is higher than if you were to buy a 16 pack. Yes you would have less overall toilet rolls and that may be an issue for you but you are paying less per toilet roll.
Laundry detergent is another common one. Look at the price per litre of the item "on sale" and compare it to the not on sale sizes/packs as well.
People generally/instinctively expect/feel that if you buy the bigger pack you get a better deal and the companies certainly make you feel that is true but you have to pay attention as more often than not the best deal isn't the deal they're promoting.

Indeed. It effectively drops the price in Europe by €130 (if you wanted a 256GB model)
iPhone 15 Pro Max 256GB is €1479
iPhone 14 Pro Max 256GB was €1609
That's quite nice and surprising given other companies such as Sony and Microsoft increasing their console hardware prices in Europe but not the US.
I was expecting the same pricing and storage configurations as last year at the very best but a bump in the base level storage while keeping the price the same as last year that is better than I expected.

I don't include HN as 'social media' either mostly because it doesn't constantly ping me when I get a reply. I have to check manually. It also don't change much so checking it once or twice a day for ten minutes isn't a big deal.
I feel if we include things like HN as social media then we need to include Newsgroups/BBS, Forums of the late 90s, etc. and literally every site online where a person can post a comment.
Perhaps technically they are all social media but to me when someone says 'social media' I think of the never ending feed of content that is manipulated to keep you coming back like a drug along with notifications about every "like" or comment or retweet (or whatever we call them now), etc.

I couldn't agree with you more. I've been using Arc for the past month or so and it's okay but my god it has a lot of 'stuff' to learn.
They have a few videos on their YouTube channel but they're not well made imho. They lack a proper script and are far too long because of the lack of proper structure.
I am surprised they released v1 without a few polished videos explaining their USPs.

It is certainly something that is more on our mind however I don't know if we will do it anytime soon. Our first change will be to go at different times of the year when it is more comfortable.
We have always avoided August as it's never been a nice time to visit due to the heat as well as being much busier due to the school holidays.
As for it's value I don't know if I am honest. It hasn't been something we've looked into in a very long time so I really have no idea.

No need to apologise, it is a pretty logical thing to assume.
We have flown of course but more often we will drive as we usually break the journey up visiting friends and family in Barcelona and Valencia on the way.
It takes longer to drive obviously but it is a more relaxed journey than flying. Plus as we don't have any time restrictions such as with a hotel booking we can just take our time and if we decide to stay a few more days for whatever reason it doesn't require any changing of flights, etc. Also means we don't need to hire a car for our stay.

It's a ~12 hour drive. No need to fly.
I have far more shame about how much food I waste or worse how much I used to consume if I am honest. When I look at the environmental impact of the food I eat it dwarfs everything else.
Even if I were to fly every time that would have been 42 two-hour flights over two decades. I wouldn't have shame over that number of flights considering I've worked with people that fly more than that in a couple of months just for meetings.

It's a long story! https://jarv.is/notes/cloudflare-dns-archive-is-blocked/
In short if you use Cloudflare's 1.1.1.1 DNS then some archive.is domains won't load so you should perhaps use another DNS server.
Edit: Not because 1.1.1.1 is in the wrong it is just what the person behind archive.is recommends as he will not be changing his position and neither will Cloudflare so it's a bit of a stalemate.

Hi mmh0000 apologies for replying like this but not long ago we had a little conversation regarding TRT. I replied to your last message but it is from a while ago and as HN doesn't alert you if you get a reply I've no idea if you read back through your older replies to see it. I was wondering if you had a bit of time to talk with me in private about TRT? I would be extremely grateful if you can and if so just drop me an email, my username satsyin at gmail will get to me. Thanks :)

You're not wrong and my wife certainly shares your opinion too!
I am naturally a bit of a worrier about "big" medication regimes like TRT and I over research and over think everything which is obviously not a great thing when it comes to medicine as everything has side effects.
I am slowly starting to adjust my mindset with regards to trying TRT but I need to see what my results are to help me make a decision.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I have heard very similar stories from many people and it is certainly a pretty good sell for trying TRT.
Your initial experience is weirdly similar to mine. My doctor has given me a few different antidepressants over the past 2 and a bit years (Escitalopram, Amitriptyline, Sertraline to name three) but they just made me worse in that I put on weight (which now will not fucking leave!), awful sleep, my penis became useless, and I was just angry 95% of the time. I was a truly awful person to be around and I felt so sorry for my wife and son having to put up with me. So I told him they're not working and we need to look at other ways of treating this depression and anxiety.
He sent me for a testosterone check I think as a bit of a way to just shut me up as I kept asking him what else can we do. He was surprised when it came back at 257ng/dL but as it was above the 249 bottom end he was like "it's a bit low but in the normal range". Thankfully I have a friend that is a doctor and they put me in touch with an Endocrinologist who agreed under 300 at least deserves some further blood work and check I don't have a pituitary gland issue which can cause a lot of my symptoms.
My symptoms are:
* extreme fatigue (to the point of falling asleep in my office chair)
* easily exhausted when exercising
* much longer recovery times from exercising, when I used to have maybe a day or two of muscle aches from pushing myself a bit more to build muscle it would now take me 3 to 4 weeks to recover.
* My concentration is garbage
* Cannot lose the weight around my abdomen. I managed to lose around 13KG back in 2020 yet put it back on thanks to the SSRIs mentioned above and doing the same things I did the first time just does not shift the weight
* Depression but it feels different to my previous experiences with depression not to mention it seems treatment resistant this time whereas before I found Sertraline was at least somewhat effective.
* Heart palpitations that are extremely uncomfortable
* Terrible sleep. It often takes me 2 hours to finally get to sleep and my sleep quality as measured by my FitBit is awful compared to a few years ago (first time the sleep tracking came in helpful)
* Very irritable and easily frustrated
I don't know how that compares to your list of symptoms but they have absolutely wrecked me the past few years. I am just hoping to god there is something of value found in my blood results so I can start working on improving things.
As I said I don't know if I will jump on TRT as it does worry me a little bit. There is no such thing as side effect free HRT after all but my wife has said I should keep an open mind and listen to my Endocrinologist who has said she would recommend it if my blood work comes back with levels in line with ~250ng/dL. I will see what the results are though, if I'm under 250 I think I will have to seriously considering just trying it for a few months. If I am around 300 I think I would rather try some natural ways and retest in 2-3 months and see if it has helped at all. If not then I will give TRT a try.
