Strange and wonderful how different our experiences are with these tools.

I will get gentle, respectful pushback on certain points when I am on the wrong track. I am 10x grateful to have a collaborator/pair programmer unafraid to challenge me and bring receipts in those instances.

I don't get attitude from Claude. I sometimes give it, but that's my own failing. Once in a great while I'll get a wry turn of phrase that makes me laugh, and those are endearing also.

I took a recurring chore at my last day job — optimizing indices against large embedding datasets — and made a little SaaS-y thing [1]. It auto-tunes my vectors and shows how/why the benchmarks shook out like they did, with prettier graphs than I was spinning in Jupyter.

I use it to learn about weird, difficult datasets to optimize for. I've been at it over a year, and have met some interesting people in this obscure niche. It keeps me off of the streets. ;)

Please let me know where to send my CV. :) 10000% agree with this. Not all of us need a weekly reinforcement that everything's okay. And if we actually need something, we can speak up without consulting Google Calendar first and waiting for a scheduled safe space to speak up about it.

I would love practical advice on how to say to a manager "I'm not deriving any value from this recurring 1x1 meeting, can we move it to on-demand?"

My 30+ year career has not revealed a way to achieve that yet without repurcussions. However much I'd prefer it.

$199 is expensive hardware? to receive magic internet sent from orbit to wherever you are on the globe?

I feel like if I took my AT&T home internet router, drop-kicked it into the bay, then asked for a replacement, they'd charge me a heck of a lot more than $199. :)

I've been wondering this too (what happens to the warmer water), and haven't found a satisfying or objective explanation. Everything is "AI drinking my water" which... just makes no sense.

I assume this is why things like PyO3 are popping up? If so, sort of a fascinating way to compartmentalize new rust code into legacy .py code in lieu of a refactor, or at least, a way to do a staggered refactor and eat the elephant in bites :)
