If my diet is the cause of a medical issue, then I'm the one at fault.

Car insurance should cost more if I'm more likely to claim, that's how insurance works.

This just sounds like you don't want data to force you to be honest.

I meant that no-one writes assembly anymore. I wasn't around when that transition happened, but I bet there were the same "this high-level language is compiling to inefficient code, it's useless" comments.

This has happened to my side project too. There's so much going on in the code now that I can't possibly grok it to make changes safely by myself any more. But I think that's OK. Because I don't have to grok it anymore.

I've been crafting beautiful code for almost 20 years - that itch is scratched. Now I just want to be productive and build cool stuff. AI is helping me make a better end-product in a fraction of the time. As long as codex understands what's going on in the ball of spaghetti, there's no problem. Sure - if I was working in enterprise then this is no good. But for personal projects and small indie shops, it's fine.

AI is just a new layer on top of the stack now. In the same way high-level languages are a layer on top of writing machine code manually. You just need to let go.

Recently, as part of the task Codex was working on for me, it needed to access a website behind a Cloudflare turnstile. It tried a regular scrape and failed. Then it found some code in my project for a proxy, which it isolated and repurposed to interact with the site it needed to scrape.

I thought that was cool.

Yes, this resonates. I have noticed things slow down over time. But fortunately my app will never grow that big so I don't think it will be an issue.

The solution, as you say, is probably to break it down into isolated sub-components that are only aware of each other's APIs and nothing more.

That sounds like a good idea, but shipping 10x as many features and bugfixes sounds better.

I started using AI with the best intentions. Checking everything before committing. Improving output by hand if it didn't quite follow the existing code style guidelines or variables were not named as well as they should be. Or if it did something sloppy or hacky.

Now, AI GOES BURRRRRRRRRRRR! If the tests pass it's good to ship. AI can deal with the problems it may create. No problems so far.

Should OP take their mom next time to shut things down for them? You don't have to do what others ask of you, you know. I stand by my original assumption - they were too inexperienced with the world to know you can tell someone no, or lacked the ability to do so.

Well, as someone with autism myself it's relatively easy to spot others, and given the information provided in the post I'd say chances are high. Not sure what rule you're referring to, it looks fine to me - autism is a super power, not a slur.

Yep. This is definitely an OP-is-autistic problem, or is perhaps inexperienced. Not an interviewer problem. Keep it professional. If an interviewer asks a personal question then you simply refuse to answer (politely), or steer it back towards a professional context. If they persist then you end the interview.

Amazing, loved this game when I was younger. I would keep restarting every time I thought of a more effective layout.
