I also went to ROTC field training at Maxwell, and had a similar experience. Once on the way to the dinning hall with another cadet, we were saluted by two new medical officers who were very confused.

Your principal and interest payment can never go up, but your property tax (which is included as escrow on your mortgage) definitely can. I live in Texas, and my mortgage will be $400 a month more next year because of rising property tax.

A reasonable US-specific problem. EV limitations like this are are why millions of people aren't currently interested in buying EVs. Compared to ICE, and EV car is more expensive, and essentially has the "road trip" feature removed.

Iowa State is a good school, I went there and ended up at Amazon and then Microsoft. The engineering programs are pretty decent and have good student outcomes, I don’t see how going to Iowa State would be disastrous for your son’s future.

I think the most telling questions are about attrition - "How many people have quit your team in the last year?" If it is more than 1-2, this is a huge red flag.
