You gotta get to the Fortune 10 before the real leverage kicks in! On the other hand the fortune 200 company I worked for briefly had many signs of deep seated corruption. I couldn't stick around for a multitude of reasons, but the "follow the rules wink wink" attitude was flabbergasting, I'm sour on publicly traded companies ever since, how do you know you're not investing in Space Balls?

In my best impression of the slapchop guy:

First you take your Blendtech and "will it blend" your engineers, then upload the result to the cloud inside what is called an S3 bucket (don't forget to set access permissions on your buckets kids!) to be digested by the clankers, sit back and profit!

Dark humor aside I think disconnecting a bunch of problem solvers from their computing equipment could really enhance the world, putting that analytical power into the world in person could move a lot of cogs, rather then marshalling JSON.

Adults who introduced me to tech when a i586 class computer was snazy were preaching about tracking on the internet and modding host files, complaining about doubleclick etc. The internet would be a much nicer place if everyone installed ublock: oragin and woke up to how yucky most ads and ad tactics are, instead we spend our time looking forward to the ads during the superbowl™

Thirty something years ago I got access to my first TV with rabbit ears, my kids have access to a lot more productive and informative content then I did, it's just the other 99.9995% of the internet I worry about. I believe in people highlighting the good stuff and denouncing the bad while keeping the door open for the slop and the haters, how do you know what's good without some bad to compare it to?

As an aside I worked in a drug users support center as an IT admin for a few months in my 20's, I don't feel like I have any insight into actual crack, other then Ewan McGregor said it best when he says choose life.

My local library is almost as much a homeless support center as a library, it's its own cultural experience, but we still go.

Setting boundaries is also part of parenting, is "the crack machine isn't despencing right now" better or worse then "time to take a break from the crack machine" I know putting a foot down can be hard, but I'd argue that it's good to practice on low stakes stuff like a show.

Another angle on this is the tope that curriculum is so out of date your AI completed assignment may be ahead of the class subject matter. The real teacher is is having a motivation or need to do something and learning about what you need to learn to get the goal accomplished, AI can be a great companion for that journey, weeding out the sycophantic slop and getting to truth is the new challenge. There are a lot of elements to school that discourage curiosity (asking a stupid question in front of class) or being picked on for being a keener or other anti-intellectual "cool kid" mentalities. In the end we need to make the line between learning and success more obvious for young people, maybe that doesn't work when the definition of success includes fitting into a burocracy and letting the singing key be "4".

We have a Canadian Constitution and the Charter of rights and freedoms, section 8 covers search and privacy, it even looks like a warrant is needed for messages just laying around a server https://www.canlii.org/en/ca/scc/doc/2013/2013scc16/2013scc1... but this bill aims to put a harpoon through our charter rights!

OTC medications can be handy, maybe convenience items are okay. It's sure convenient to be able to buy cigarettes and lotto tickets at the same store as your diabetes supplies etc. I guess the contradiction in health/vice items strokes my sense of decency the wrong way. There's a picture at the top of the Wikipedia article for pink tax; depicting men's and women's products for the same price and the woman's version being significantly smaller, you're saying that doesn't exist? I'll go another step and say there's a phenomenon I've noticed where women enforce standards of beauty and cosmetic use, the trope of teenage girls shoplifting cosmetics, socially picking on eachother to enforce a norm the includes the use of various products. And then the marketing for acne products, skin clensers, foundations and fillers and so on and so forth. All targeted at the self esteem of the target audience. This extends into cosmetic surgery botox etc. I find the marketing and the bullying behavior around that industry quite distasteful. My user handle is meant to be an ironic jab at the cosmetic industry after all.

It long past time we think hard about what is good for us at the pharmacy, sure there are a handful of life saving drugs, but then the other 95% of the store is pink tax and carcinogens.
