This is such a ridiculous statement. There’s so many different levels of bureaucracy across the developed and developing world that you can’t really put them all in a single bag.

Currency is already managed by the elected government, and every democracy in the world traces electronic transactions. Some (like Italy) forbid cash payments in large sums altogether. So what's the boogieman here?

If my grandma had wheels she would have been a bike. Most of these decisions are made by someone very early on in the process, either a cofounder or an underpaid junior engineer, when the company has zero revenue and no PMF.

It's unrealistic to expect a startup to build a product (or at least it was prior to LLMs generating a lot of boilerplate) with best practices in place.

That’s an economic concept, not a dig at consumers. It’s well known (hell, there’s a nobel laureate for it) that humans are irrational when it comes to economics.

Weirdly, I live in a somewhat rural part of Brazil, and all providers are small players. They’re all offering 1Gi FTTH and are now competing on price. Meanwhile, the closest metro area still suffers with cable internet topping at 600M and low availability.

Some big cities have seen a surge of small providers too, which has been great for consumers.

That said, I dont buy the “natural monopoly” argument at all, especially trying to compare it to water supply.
