Here, here. The only time you notice the air vents in your car is when they're poorly designed, and you can't figure out how to adjust them without looking at them. Nobody ever notices well-designed air vents.

Svelte should also be considered before React/Vue/Angular, because it's a generation ahead of all of them -- in many ways. The recommendations for React in here are no bueno unless you're just looking for the framework with the most job postings.

Reading and using YUI3 (https://github.com/yui/yui3) took my JavaScript to the next level. It's no longer relevant because of improvements to the language, but it's the best model of readable JavaScript I've ever seen.

DOS - high memory and expanded memory. It allowed games (OK, and maybe some productivity apps boooorrrinnggg) to take giant leaps.

I launched a little consulting side gig on Fiverr to build dashboards and reports on Google Data Studio.

The good: - I got plenty of customers (side gig volume) from all over the world. - Many of them were very happy with the results. - Collecting requirements for reports and dashboards is notoriously difficult and volatile, but I was able to keep this under control. I credit my age (48) and experience for that.

The bad: - I hitched my wagon to a tool that is not ready for prime time: Google Data Studio. I spent too much time wrestling with the tool. - The success of many projects depended not on my skills with Data Studio, but with the quality of the data sources and APIs that were feeding into Data Studio. Almost half the time, the quality was well below expectations, and I spent too much time wrestling with the integration.

In the end, I wasn't even close to making a reasonable hourly rate, and getting to the point where I could get past an hourly rate and make money at scale seemed impossible.

I happily shut it down after six months.

I did a bunch of ~$100 jobs as a freelancer on UpWork. It was the same work over and over again. I decided I needed to automate the work, and, long story short, I ended with an online tool that allowed customers to do the work themselves. It's cheaper for them and more profitable for me now.

Unrelated tip: beware trying to make money targeting developers. We are a bunch of cheap asses, and we expect everything to be free. Target consumers and/or businesses instead.
