> We have examples like Elon who, through sheer force of will, defeats armies of people who don't care.
The interesting part of this article and the comments this site have produced is this statement and the fact you’ve all either ignored it or just accepted it as fact.
You’re all part of the problem.

The best places to look are on Meetup and Eventbrite, there are groups that meet fairly regularly for most languages/technologies. Such as Leeds Ruby Thing - https://twitter.com/leedsrubything , Leeds DevOps -http://www.leedsdevops.org.uk, Leeds JS - http://www.meetup.com/LeedsJS, and there are many others, even one dedicated to AWS I think.
Sky have recently started big investment in the area, as you're probably aware, and do a Tech Event most months with various guest speakers, the next one of those is focusing on JS if that's your thing - https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/leedstechhub-javascript-ticke...
There's a Code Dojo - http://www.meetup.com/Leeds-Code-Dojo
There is also a Hack Space if that interests you - https://leedshackspace.org.uk
An annual Hack Day takes place, but that's usually later on in the year - http://leedshack.org - but other hack days have appeared at other times during the year (they tend to be corporate sponsored ones but if you get past the recruitment element of them, they can be fun.)

In Leeds there are plenty of meet ups and events going on, there is very much a 'scene' - you just have to involve yourself in it if you wish to.
London is bound to have plenty going on.

Writing over someone else's work is a form of disrespect and the cause of much conflict within the Graffiti community.
Banksy is a polarising person within the Graffiti community. Most notably because he defaced a piece by Robbo.
So yes, it was 'supposed to happen' and depending upon your stance it could either be seen as justified or something to 'feel sad about'.

I don't know anyone who sounds like the 'British' version I also doubt that that dialect would be preferred.
It would fall under the 'Queens English' or 'received pronunciation', which, in some studies, is considered less intelligent than Yorkshire dialect - http://www.theguardian.com/uk/2008/apr/04/6

There is only a common spelling difference in the written sense though. An American would not fully understand someone from Yorkshire speaking Yorkshire dialect, nor would they understand someone from Merseyside, Glasgow, etc. if they were speaking in their dialect.
I'm from Yorkshire originally, my dialect is totally different from those in Merseyside or the North East (for example.) How we speak and how we write is different. 'British English' only exists in the written form and I don't believe that is what this service is aiming to 'improve'.
UK regional accents/dialects are something which are favourable. The North East dialect, for example, is seen as favourable in call centres because the majority find it a 'nice' or 'friendly' dialect.
I don't understand the idea of 'if you're a start-up don't have an accent/dialect'.

What is 'British' English?
No such thing exists really, at least not in the spoken word form.
You'll also find that regional accents are considered more favourable/likeable than 'the Queens English' so the premise of this may not be 100% correct...
(Brummie is not included in the favourable dialects because it's not considered nice by anyone in the UK except those in that area.)
