A lot o the confusion around data centers is that these companies purposely hide this information from the public. We already know how damaging normal data centers are:

Citizens had to sue their town to force them to give up water usage, something Google was adamant about hiding from the public.

When there is no accountability, trust plummets. There is no reason to trust anything from these corpos or their pro-corpo rags.

We must always remember that the rich + elites do not care how we are. They do not care if we're fed, they do not care if we get adequate medical care, or find love or start families.

The only thing the rich cares about is what we think of them, they will spend 100s of millions to make sure people positively of them.

Expecting people to do the right thing is a fundamental issue here. Why would you ever expect for all of vulnerabilities to be disclosed privately? There's very little actual incentive to do this.

I'm honestly unaware of what systems could be put in place to prevent this but expecting people to always do the right thing is fantasy level thinking. I mean I bet the disclosers thought they were doing the right thing, hence why it's a bad thing to rely on.

Yes, this group had a great interview on The Majority Report w/ Sam Seder. Really both inspiring and infuriating. Inspiring in that human ingenuity to preserve and help others truly knows no limits; infuriating because these are a people having a genocide committed against them and are forced to do such things for basic medical care.

One day everyone will truly be against this.

VC money is absolutely not a means to an end, what is signals is that the company doesn't care about community and only cares about profit.

I'm with the OP you're replying to. Taking VC is an albatross that means a large portion of devs will never trust you or use your services (outside of bleeding your funds dry).

If this place truly cared about community they should have made a non-profit or some type of NGO, basically anything with a true community governance model. Not the current model of caring about money over a community.

We currently live in a society that solely cares about money and seriously doubt devs want to continue uplifting the current system that only benefits the rich at the expense of everyone else.

How many board seats does the company plan on giving to the community to ensure enshittification doesn't occur?

I'm aware of who this person is, been following their work since their egghead.io doodle days. What I would never do is put this person in a position involving software research when they were never professionally a software developer nor were they academically trained like one either.

I'm sorry but this is just a perfect encapsulation of why American corporations are brazenly bad and corrupt without actual competition.

This is honestly no different than RFK Jr being the Secretary of HHS. I'm sure if you spoke with him, he'd say he was highly competent at this job too.
