Education sustem is not about the actual knowledge, but about training various aspects of the brain during kids development.
So even memorizing literature have benefits, even though it doesn't bring any career use.
If you skip this, well your brain won't develop as much at period of life it's able to do so.

Dunno your age. You're probably bit younger than me.
You're right, I'm referencing to inverse sqrt.
Bezier curves were the main talking point about Quake 3 engine throughout all PC magazines when Quake 3 demo came out.
Because it was like nothing ever seen before, and noone ever expected it to run ~20-30FPS on period HW.
It wasn't a talking point for too long as with full game, Quake 3 became top multiplayer game, and graphics behind it were not important anymore.

>Well I never had the opportunity to meet that friend.
So you didn't meet a single person throughout your entire life, who was worth befriending, putting extra effort to help them, and occassionally receiving help in return?
>But why would they do the exact opposite of what the OP did?
Well, for example. There are lots of nerd kids with perspective to succeed in professional life but are "usual" targets of bullies in childhood.
Some kids step-up for bullied kids because that's the right thing to do, other kids join the bullies as it gave them fake feeling of power.

Partime jobs are for people which doesn't have time for fulltime jobs (like students), or people with schedule not suitable for fulltime job (like single mothers), or elderly with low pensions.
All these jobs are for unqualified (minimum training max.) workforce, with low pay and big turnaround of workforce.
Literally to supplement fulltime employees for peak period of day (like waitresses at night).
Nothing to support a normal life (decent living, decent car, some vacations).
Noone capable of working qualified fulltime job would downgrade their living standards to "bare minimum" of people having only partime jobs.
People living in mamma hotel bubble have hard time understanding how all their bullshit is easily debunked by people living outside that bubble.
Nothing to support

You've picked that right friend and you've earned that one friend, and you've kept that one friend for ages.
If someone does exact opposite of what you've did, than it's not unfair he's doing worse than you do.

Exactly ... PE's wants shorterm return, just numbers in a sheetbook, and they special execs for such jobs. Their only "strategy" (my dog can figure out better) is aggresive monetization, layoffs pushing remaining employees to limits.
Profits goes up ... so the strategy must work, lets increase monetization more and do more layoffs.
Prices goes up, quality of service goes down.
After few years, everything goes down the drain, PE and their execs can't figure out what went wrong.

I would love to see the "depth" of your knowledge in those topics.
You literally proved the OP's point ... thinking you're learning. More like scratching the surface, with lots of invalid data while not being able to recognize what's invalid.
It's like with latest vector of attacks being spamming Github with malware injected in proper looking code in hope of AI to index it.
Then you paste the code because you don't understand it, but you take it as working and only doing what you've asked for.

I think author jumps from high horse of only fortunate should survive to high horse of saving 8 billion people with magic wand.
You can't save the heroin addict with incentives.
You can't feed & cure all people in Africa with incentives because then in 20 years, the problem will tripple in dimensions.
Incentives in people which enables those people to "repay the debt" to create wealth for incentives to other people works.
Incentives for handicapped enables them to live better life, and decrase burden on their relatives (which enables them to create more).
Incentives in science sectors which don't have immediate "business vector" works.
Incentives are good, if they are supplemental in degree that's necessary ... and addressed precisely.
Otherwise they are waste of resources created through higher taxes (penalty for everyone).

Memory has tencency to bend reality for better.
Every room with torches was max 9FPS on 320x200 on DX2 OCed to 3x50MHz, literally 50% performance over your PC.
Turnig off all objects through console made torches vanished and FPS doubled.
