I'm also a victim of this. Last time I try and install Backstage.

Have you wiped your laptop/infected machine? If not I would recommend it; part of it created a ~/.dev-env directory which turned my laptop into a GitHub runner, allowing for remote code execution.

I have a read-only filesystem OS (Bluefin Linux) and I don't know quite how much this has saved me, because so much of the attack happens in the home directory.

It does install a GitHub runner and registers the infected machine as a runner, so remote code execution remains possible. It might be a stretch to call it persistent but it definitely tries.

Having been using Grafana community/cloud for a number of years, my new gig is currently moving everything to SigNoz. Mostly slick, under active development, communicative team, open source... what's not to love?

I'm so tired of opening every program or app I have to use for work and being met by a popup or notification that I can, should I wish, do something with AI. I can't even change focus of a Meet window without it popping up suggesting Gemini, and I can see that notification countless times in a day. Can't turn it off, I'm not an Org Admin.

I just want to not have it shoved in my face. It's exhausting.

Coming from a Pixel ~5 to a Fairphone 5, this is by far my biggest gripe. Constantly finding it unlocked because it unlocks as soon as I lock it.

I recommend Bazzite, a Fedora SilverBlue image customised for gaming on Linux. I've been gaming on it exclusively for over a year and between it, Steam, and Proton, I'm yet to encounter a game in my steam library that doesn't run.

Agreed. I'm hoping the old Weaveworks GUI makes a comeback in the near future under the new organisation, as it looked to do a better job than anything else I've seen so far.

Terrifying that this could happen as recently as 2008 and, I'm sure, with better understanding of potential consequences.

In 1966, something similar (although with a mining waste dump, instead of ash) happened in Aberfan, Wales (in the UK) with a more tragic outcome[1].

The question should be whether this occurred due to ignorance or ignoring the lessons of history, which rhymes if not repeats.

I live in a fairly small town in Wales, and pretty much everything is coordinated via Facebook. Makes it very hard to completely escape it, but as you say a "burner" account is the only way to permit access with minimal engagement.
