To me, it’s a weird feeling—- like someone taking credit for others’ work.
[1] https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2019/10/23/google-quantum-computing...

Yes. I was responding to the question about how the employees feel, and they feel great, precisely because all time highs (let’s ignore openai’s impact for now). Wrt openai, why should msft employees feel bad to have openai colleagues who can help further increase share price?
Wrt whether it’s just the market itself or openai, note that news of sama’s firing caused ms shares a steep drop. Then news of sama’s employment with msft help set the share price at least back to where it was before.

> The most sloppy driving I've ever seen is in the us. People weaving in and out of their lane staring at a phone, people driving into ditches, driving through building walls in parking lots you name it. The reality is that many people just should not be driving a car but are forced to by abysmal american infrastructure and even worse city planning.
Likely in some case they were driving under the influence vs being on the phone.

I have thought about this myself quite a bit: Should I or should I not filter the world for my kids? Back then, as a kid, computers/Internet allowed me to access an unfiltered world. It was great! I didn’t like adults restricting what information I had or didn’t have, nurturing their own agenda in me. I am leaning to not filter what my kids will have access to... but I suppose this fulfills my agenda.

Pretty much this. You can have experience and also perform well in a system design interview. However, passing some of these rounds involves chance. Some interviewers are looking for specific answers. For example, some interviewers are looking for you to be knowledgeable about recent papers specific to the heavy-hitters problem. Or the two ways to best support lynchpin objects. It’s not so much as dropping well-known building blocks to construct a system but rather the interviewer asking you to design a system requiring specific characteristics you might not have any specialization in building.

All these layoffs we’re seeing were planned well over six months ago. It’s not coordinated or copy-cat. However, it may be that all the bean counters learned the same lessons in the same schools. So, given certain scenarios, their best answer is: layoff people.
