In fact tbh I tried to get through this here Encyclical 3 times already but just didn't manage (knowing absolutely nothing about Catholicism except what's in the Dogma movie didn't help), and I can't help but think now that if it had a TOC like the Equifax report it'd be spectacular.

I don’t understand your point at all, C++ objectively has a much stronger type system. It’s turing complete!

I’m not arguing that that’s better, or worse, but it’s definitely true and by no means a myth.

Are you sure about this one? I don’t know exactly who’s in the committee these days but last I checked they were all hardcore C++ programmers with decades of experience from the trenches.

That was amazing. I once witnessed a protest like that, in Hannover Germany I think. The idea of 4chan people actually going up the stairs and out of the house into the open air and talking to people, like with molecules and sound waves and all that stuff, it still blows my mind.

I think this is the key point. HN commenters on this thread and related ones like to assume everybody’s an activist luddite but actually I bet the majority of the audience is just rolling their eyes at the amount of open doors being kicked in while being forced to sit still and listen to that drivel.

This is never going to work. Sufficiently many of these people are going to find maintainers' home addresses and send them death threats and the likes. If you see how badly some people flip out just because their PR is rejected, it's going to be much much worse if their PR is rejected and their money is taken.

This is not just any large organization, it's Anthropic. Their entire shtick is that AIs can do Real Work now and it'd be weird if they didn't behave accordingly themselves.

This is also why Claude Code is full of weird bugs and why their support says that it did refunds when it didn't and so on and so forth.

I know several stories of people who got fired (or contracts not prolonged) who finished their task at hand, did some handover to colleagues, and then left.
