>The math hasn’t worked out for a while now.
Have the costs to post to X grown too high? The salary of someone with the technical know-how to work the social media platform is too expensive? How does the math compare with Mastodon? Do you know about buffer.com?
I started giving to EFF about 10 years ago. It's pretty much the first and only organization I have regularly given to. It always felt like a non-political organization focused squarely on the right to access. Especially with its support of the Tor project. But this news has me confused and other commenters seem to be seeing virtue signaling or politically motivation.

Satoshi Nakamoto was likely created in response to the December 2005 raid of e-Gold in Florida by U.S. Secret Service/FBI, and other similar incidents. e-Gold was the largest Digital currency at the time clearly showed the dangers of centralization. Douglas Jackson's indictment occurred about 18 months before the Bitcoin whitepaper.
So the risk of centrally founding another digital currency was clear at the time and e-Gold was discussed by both Back and Finney.
Launching without a single point of failure, a single arrestable founder was critical to the success of Bitcoin.

31 acres of corn for ethanol to match the energy production of just 1 acre of solar panels.
Revenue could be 3-4x that of corn production.
Get ready for rise of the photon farmers.

Firstly, I’m not a developer — but I am a very technical, over-50, product person and entrepreneur.
This project started shortly after Claude Code launched. I had already worked on a few other AI coding projects, and decided to see how far I could realistically take something end-to-end. While I had some help from a developer, I increasingly felt capable of taking on more work myself. So about 9 months in the making, working full time on it past 2 months.
Stack:
Postgres, Next.js on Render. Monorepo with both frontend and backend services.
Some takeaways from using Claude Code on this project:
- I built all project pages directly in frontend JavaScript with mock data — no Figma or other layout tools.
- In the early days, scope got out of hand; I learned quickly that Claude tends to overbuild unless tightly constrained.
- Initially, I used Claude Desktop to refine prompts for Claude Code.
- My skills with Git, SQL, Docker, and local/remote environments were shaky at first, but they no longer get in the way.
- Using Flowbite CSS saved a lot of pain and made it possible to produce reasonably high-quality designs quickly.
- Getting details right has always depended on pushing people, now that responsibility falls entirely on me.
- About six months in, I adopted the Functional Core, Imperative Shell approach and documented it in claude.md
(inspired by this HN post: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=45701901).
- I built an Airbnb-style referral program in a day, after spending time on a detailed to-do spec and following the above approach.
What Jetogo does:
- Issues you long-term, data-only eSIMs for mobile data
What is Jetogo for:
- Saving money on travel roaming data costs
- Secondary devices (e.g., a kid’s iPad, laptop, or backup connection)
What we built:
- Parse CDR usage data to calculate accurate user billing
- Implemented pay-as-you-go and subscription options using Stripe
- Subscriptions support rollover and overage, applied at the end of each billing period
- Built referral, bonus, and coupon programs
- Aggregate usage across multiple eSIMs under a single account and present a unified total
Live now at: https://jetogo.com

If it comes to pass that traffic jams are in large part due to poor human choices, that will bode poorly for the general populace to continue to be allowed to drive.
Flying used to be like this - my grandpa had 3 airplanes, used one to fly a calf back to his farm.
The Secret Service is being overly alarmist, but to a hammer, everything looks like a nail.
“We need to do forensics on 100,000 cell phones, essentially all the phone calls, all the text messages, anything to do with communications, see where those numbers end up,” "You can’t text message, you can’t use your cell phone. And if you coupled that with some sort of other event associated with UNGA, you know, use your imagination there, it could be catastrophic to the city."
So until we do our jobs, imagine the worst case scenario. Thanks guys.
Could be rent US a number service, data roaming, VOIP or SMS termination, account registration (google, tiktok, whatsapp).
There are data roaming services that use 5G GSM modems to transfer the SIMs tower connection to pocket wifi devices for tourists who need data.
