its worth noting that you were much less restricted with this 6k computer in 1996. today we are paying ever more for walled gardens that will eventually become nothing more than a portal to cloud services. we are not returning to a previous position, we are moving to a world where everything will be a thin client.

i agree with his statement that the big companies and the string pullers in government are inching toward banning open models.allowing the plebs unrestricted access to things seems against the wishes of the "you will own nothing and be happy" / "you will rent everything on the cloud and subscribe to your appliances" crowd such as blackrock and so on.

anyone who disagrees is not seeing the forest, only the trees.

not only is he correct, but this path will result in openai going the way of enron. i hope in the case of openai and their collaborators in nvidia we see more people going to prison.

of course you shy away from the fact that the string pullers in the world are hell bent on removing as much local compute and privacy from us as possible, so we can do nothing but use cloud services for everything from gaming to video editing. im sure the thought police would never use that to stifle dissenting opinions. your attitude displays a high level of unwarranted trust in these corrupt institutions and greedy corporations who all decided that making you pay a monthly fee for everything is much better for them than you buying something once, especially when all of these online services are monitored in real time for thought crimes by their ai systems.

if you can afford to run one that is powerful enough for what you need it will be the superior choice. nobody should be feeding private data to the axis of evil (open ai, anthropic, palantir). i saw a job listing recently about an ai proficient data guy needed to work in a medical office. i thought to myself that there was very little chance they were cognizant of how medical records privacy laws conflict with non-local ai use. things are getting unhinged in the world.
