On Solaris, Linux, BSDs etc. it's only necessary for maintenance. Literally. I think my longest uptime production system was a sparc postgres system under sustained high load with uptime of around 6 years.

With cloud infra, people have forgotten just how stable the Unixken are.

Practically: Ports 22, 80, and 443 open and directly accessible from 0.0.0.0/0 is extremely manageable.

Just looking at this article Aborigines had been in Australia for 20k - 30k years before the White Sands footprints were made. I'm sure there's footprints of similar "vintage" there. It would be curious to compare them.

However, I do notice the pronounced gaps between the toes. My parents generation grew up in Melanesia starting around the 1950’s and many of them have commented on the distinctly different footprint profiles of the local people who never had worn shoes and the western newcomers. If you’ve never worn shoes your toes are far more splayed. I don’t know about lenght of toe.

So really I don’t think your observation is related to their genetic proximity and more to do with bodily adaptation. Perhaps an anthropological podiatrist can comment.

If you could add googlesheets to mermaid.js table or googlesheets straight to png of a markdown table that would be so nice. As I recall Mermaid.js renders to png.

Easy way to build tables, I can just insert the image of the table.

Many of us were running on 28.8 dial-up. Internet search was not even close to a solved problem. Compiling a new kernel was an overnight or even weekend process. Finding and manually downloading rpm dependencies was slow and hard. Same era when compiling a kernel went overnight or over the weekend. You didn't download an ISO you bought a CD or soon a DVD that you could booted off of.

Compare that to Debian's apt-get or Suse's yast/yast2 of the time, both just handled all that for you.

Debian and Suse were fun and fit perfectly into the Web 1.0 world; RedHat was corporate. SystemD was pushed by RedHat.

The problem is optics. Pretend I'm a brand new user and I want to build GUI applications. I've heard of a language called Freepascal and of an IDE called Lazarus. I think they're connected but I don't know how. And what's Delphi?

FreePascal has lazarus docs and Lazarus has FreePascal docs?

As a new user I can slog through 4 different links of schtuff, I guess. (Disappointment and frustration lie ahead; broken old buggy software that doesn't match the documentation. New User doesn't know that yet.) Maybe I'll just look for Youtube videos, but my enthusiasm is draining.
