That goes beside the point. Scammers probably boosted more their scams with AI than developers boosted their deliveries.

This hasn't been my experience both searching and reading vulnerabilities. Hackerone is public for some companies and vulnerabilities and you can see how contrived exploits can get. Even before AI, Burp Suite Pro was enough to get the so-called script kiddie style hacking.

People gloss over memory retention way too much. You become like a manager who knows about the overview, but not the ins and outs (to a lesser degree).

Maybe it's only me and my inexperience, but only reviewing doesn't make me as "in" as doing it myself.

I do think humans need to be forced to do things they don't want. You don't need to believe my words. Just watch how many people get bored in their long vacations.

If all you do is having fun, it's obvious you'll need a new bar over and over (which is literally happening nowadays).

This is a slippery slope. Having only fun things to do make them obviously boring. The human being craves contrast.

That assuming what you've said is true, which is not. In a work environment, you're forced to optimize whatever that there is, regardless if it's fun or not.

Moreover, there is always fun to be had even in tasks you've found boring beforehand.

I agree with the article. I've never understood the notion of some LLM people saying you shouldn't care about the end result, and you should do it for its sake. It made me feel like a narcissist and that I was programming for showmanship, but I think making is inherent to (most) people's satisfaction and it's hard to tell something was made by you when all you did was prompting.

Maybe a hot take, but I do think, that even from seasoned developers, the idea they've been doing the 'logical' part so long they'd have it done anyway without AI and it'd only take more time is delusional, when, from personal experience, even when I code something I 'know' and I've 'done', I have to remember stuff, google what isn't ingrained in my brain, and so on.

I don't know if the author would consider this a part of making, but a single thing you build is, obviously, a mix of things you've built. I no longer sense this minor feeling of 'making' when I'm doing something. To make a logic that's part of a bigger system and see it running, thinking how it's gonna be once it's all done... I no longer feel that.

i agree, but i doubt anyone on hn is struggling for basic needs. so the struggle is almost always fun, and i think that goes for most white collar jobs. it's a fun struggle. getting to the office, doing some chores, and that's something AI is slowly killing off
