I agree with this if what you mean is that employment generally requires conformity, passivity, accepting low autonomy, low creativity, etc. Otherwise, this isn't my experience.

One of the reasons that books are indeed too expensive is that the mass market paperback is effectively dead. Now consumers much choose from fewer, higher priced options. That is, trade paperbacks and hardcovers.

Hardcovers may be relatively inexpensive by this metric or that but I don't want to pay for them and I don't really want them at all.

Additionally, I can't imagine being blase about gaining parasites just because you're not pregnant or immunocompromised.

I worked with one of these. Every interaction was miserable and stomach-turning. He slowed the project down in a number of ways. A friendly average person would have been a net gain.
