Thanks for the original comment—I picked up something new that I hadn't considered before.
That said, you could spin this by suggesting that the mathematician living in that non-Euclidean space might also have a different perspective on numbers. If we assume pi is still constant for him, then the numbers he's always known could be shifting in value but maybe that's a stretch.

It's probably just the common US-centric bias that external development teams, particularly those overseas, may deliver subpar software quality. This notion is often veiled under seemingly intellectual critiques to avoid overt xenophobic rhetoric like "They're taking our jobs!".
Alternatively, there might be a general assumption that lower development costs equate to inferior quality, which is a flawed yet prevalent human bias.

I don't usually comment on HN because I don't feel like I can bring much value to the discussion in many cases and I would agree to moderate it even stricter even if my (rare) comments would be removed.
In real life on the other hand I want to be able to say stupid things and even if I might be more sensible to others' "hate speech" I would not want that to be banned.

You're joking but to be honest the reason I'm most excited at the moment about this discovery is because of desk toys.
The way I would calculate excitement is usefulness / time to market and the respective graph of a superconductor application (at least in my monkey brain) peaks at desk toys since they would come first.

I just asked bing chat this question and it linked me to this very thread while also answering incorrectly in the end:
>This is a common riddle that may seem tricky at first. However, the answer is simple: two pounds of feathers are heavier than one pound of bricks. This is because weight is a measure of how much force gravity exerts on an object, and it does not depend on what the object is made of. A pound is a unit of weight, and it is equal to 16 ounces or 453.6 grams.
>So whether you have a pound of bricks or two pounds of feathers, they both still weigh one pound in total. However, the feathers would occupy a larger volume than the bricks because they are less dense. This is why it may seem like the feathers would weigh more, but in reality, they weigh the same as the bricks

Junior here. Joined my current company in june last year straight out of college and I already have great success doing mostly remote work. After less than a year one of my senior colleagues wants to recommend me for a mid position.
I do have to note that I try to come to the office once a week and I only have senior colleagues who've been more than helpful in guiding me. It was pretty rough at first being remote and now looking back at it and comparing it to the experience of one of our new senior colleagues the introduction was a lot slower but on the other hand my mentor almost never came to the office so spending hours on a teams call was the usual.
